2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 CapFlu (3798) - Victoria, - APR 27, 2004
(Draught) On tap at the brewery. pours a thin, white head that quickly dissipates from my memory like Martin's eloquent descriptors. I notice a mahogany body, a body like no other... no other that sits in front of me. This beer... a beer. Mind and body over a 6000 year old recipe. What do I conjure? This slight whisky and strong caramel malt doesn’t qualify after the long duration of transposing. My mahogany depression continues...

Clear light copper. Wheat, some smoke, a bit nutty. Watery body. The malt character is pleasant and even a bit complex but overall this Cru is more a Bland than Grand.

Muddy yeast flakes moisturized by diluted brown rum...Berries pressurized by the will to find more...An easy ending certainly not prized by this Belgian-seeking taster...

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 muzzlehatch (4425) - Burlington, Vermont, USA - APR 25, 2004
On tap at the brewpub. Dark, dark maple. Thinnish head. Sweet brown sugar-cherry nose; yeasty, dry and rather flat initially on the tongue. Dusty and woody palate, but a bit of chocolate-covered cherry shows up late to give some life; a bit thin and not really spicy at all. Not bad, but not "grand."

Draft at TAP NY. Pours cloudy copper with small white head. Aroma is sweet and malty. Sweet, fruity and malty in the finish. Needed a bigger sample size to appreciate this more accurately.
