JDW, Rochester. Fragrant and flavoursome. This is a damn fine ale. White lily and nettle aroma - solid hop aroma - very fresh. Good, pale biscuit malt. Lovely. Good ingredients - plenty of them, fresh and well made. Put it all together, and wham - you got a great drinking beer, full of flavour!

Cask conditioned handpump Crosse Keys London. Back in the 1990s when Everards introduced this I drank loads if it. It was almost certainly’ the best ’Christmas’ beer I could get my hands on. I was sure that after all those years this was going to be a real disappointment, especially as the three beers that preceded it at the Crosse Keys were pretty dull. However it turned out to be really good and if not quite as flavoursome as my memory suggested, it’s still a pretty fine beer. Amber with a white head and lacing. The aroma is cakey with good spices and some brown sugar. Cinnamon seems to be the most apparent of all the spices in the mouth but there’s surely some nutmeg as well. Warming, lengthy and damn tasty. Bring it on.

Cask conditioned at a Wetherspoons. Brown / ruby beer with thin head. Sweet, malty, christmas pudding spicy with a cloying thick character. No nuts for me in there but a warming christmas beer.
