DruncanVeasey (5150) - NUNEATON, Blue Square Prem, - APR 17, 2007
UPDATED: OCT 12, 2007 Copper pour, lacy off-white suds. Buttery malt sweetness in the nose. The blurb claims maximum bitterness, but they’re kidding themselves. Rich, malty, sweet and smooth. The hops (3 kinds??) a touch too drenched in xmas pudding and caramel stickiness for me. Tasty but lacking balance. (re-rate) Aroma of vinous oak, toffee, dark dry fruit. Smooth malty caramel with a lingering bitter roasty finish. An offputting note of chlorine. Woodily and nuttily bitter like an off walnut. Rich, unhoppy and dull.

Can, 50 cl. Clear golden with a small white head. Nose is toasted malts, light caramel, subdued flowery hops. Flavor is medium malty sweetness, light bitter finish, toasted bread, a little nuts. Unsensational. Light body, oily texture, soft carbonation.

500ml can (Stockmann, Tallinn)
Fairly sweet hoppy aroma. Caramelly, smooth, body, gentle carbonation. Hops even in the retronasals. Toffee too. Finish caramelly and even hoppy again. Might be an overrate as this is such an escape from the pale lagers we’ve just had. Definitely an adequate drink. Enjoyed it for what it was.

500 ml can. Copenhagen, Denmark.
Clear amber colour with average size off-white head. Rather unpleasant stale floral hoppy aroma combined with some alcohol. Flavour is a bit more bearable. Some bitterness, floral hops and mild sweetness. Alcohol lurks in the can. I know a few better English ESBs.

suurjuust (356) - Tartu, ESTONIA - FEB 5, 2012
Can. Golden amber, white head, some lacing. Nose is mainly malts and caramel with metallic hints. Taste is dominated by tea and sweetness, but there’s also caramel, malt and a vague fruitiness. Dry and bitter finish.
