UPDATED: DEC 1, 2005 Dec, 2003 JDW, Margate. A murky light amber with thin cream coloured head of assorted popping bubbles. Served slightly cold. Slight citric hops muddled with some earthy hops in the middle which assert more in the finish. Poor quality malt - thin and scrappy. The whole thing is messy and doesn’t taste fresh. Malt picks up on big mouthfulls - slightly sweet and very boring. [2.1]
Jan 2004 JDW, Faversham. Served in good condition. Much tastier. [2.8]
Dec, 2005 JDW, Leytonstone Tangy best bitter. Quite pleasant. Gentle hops. [3.0]

Cask@The Drum, London. Amber colour, small white head. Aroma is caramel malts, some fruity notes as well as mild spices and herbs. Flavour is nutty, caramel malty, fruity and mild spices as well.

Cask at the Old Manor (JDW), Bracknell. Amber with a loose white head; lacking aroma; simple caramel malt flavour with a light touch of spice; and some digestive biscuit to finish. Another boring basic bitter.

Appearance Amber, clear, frothy white head, reasonable lacing.
Aroma Hint of grassy hops, some sweet caramel malt, not much aroma.
Taste Caramel malt, hint of spices, fruity, toffee, quite complex flavour.
Palate Soft carb, medium body. Finish - fruity, bit of citrus, bit of light roast malt, soem lingering bitterness.
Overall A bit unusual but was OK - better than the other Everards beers tried so far.

Cask at The Drum, Leyton, London. Hazy amber. Fruity caramel aroma. Some grass and spice. Medium bodied with soft mouthfeel. Mildly caramelly, medium bitterness. Nicely drinkable.

Tasted this in the Saltcot, Saltcoats (JDW) in December 2005. Cask, handpump dispense. Clear pale copper red in colour with a thin white head. Sweet malt present in the short nose. Thin resiny mouthfeel and good lacing. Pale malts give a short digestive biscuit base with hints of juicy raisin fruit and redcurrants. Dusty prickle of dry hop flowers give a brief resiny aftertaste. Malt edges it in the finish with orange peel notes evident. An ok session bitter.

Bland, forbidding Christmas ale with little character or seasonal speciality.

Cask. The Marquis of Wellington, Leicester. Medium cream head, excellent lacing. Dark orange clear body. Caramel, biscuit, some hops. Quite sweet. Creamy, with a dry finish. Probably one of the best beers that Everards make, with only Original possibly better.

Cask at the Black Horse, Leicester. Not very festive, this is an ordinary bitter which is slightly watery but otherwise inoffensive. I fail to understand why so many British Christmas beers are so insipid compared to, say, Goose Island.
