A light and refreshing ale with a cunning hint of ginger.

Cask-conditioned at the Commercial Rooms (JDW), Bristol 21/04/09. Pale amber with a slight, off-white head. This came across as more of a ginger based drink than a beer. There was plenty of the spice in the aroma and flavour with some sweetish malts and little evidence of alcohol. Easy drinking nonetheless.

April 2008. Dry ale with aromatic ginger. Has a paradoxical cool feel about the palate.

Cask and handpump at the Bull’s Head, Strand on the Green. Light brown with a light white head. A bit of ginger on the nose, then a bit more on the palate, dry and malty too, and nicely balanced. It’s not a ginger beer, it’s a beer spiced with ginger. Another one good enough to go back for seconds.

Cask, Drum and Monkey, Glasgow. Pleasant pale ale, the ginger flavour is subtle. I like my ginger beers to have a bit more of a kick, this neither overpowers nor underwhelms. Touch of dryness, slighlty papery and a very thin head (pulled without sparkler)

DruncanVeasey (5150) - NUNEATON, Blue Square Prem, Warwickshire, ENGLAND - MAY 8, 2009
Cask handpull, The Olde Ship, Seahouses, Northumberland. Don’t you just love it when you drive 250 miles from home to drink something that’s brewed down the road? Clear gold with a slim white head. Fresh rub of root ginger aroma. Brazenly spiced without heat- more dunked gingernut than root ginger. Falls between two stools. Unbeery, unspicy, tasty and pointless.

Cask conditioned at The Eagle & Child, Oxford. Pale amber with white head. Fruity apricot flavour with bitter drynes. Otherwise fairly average.

Cask handpump at The Wellington, Birmingham (May 2008). Amber, slow to clear. Short head. Lots of ginger in the scent with some lime also. Watery. Quite sweet, almost lemonade in the mouth. Some carbonation. Ginger and citrus tastes are there but it is not acidic. Still something missing, though and it is too sweet to have much of.

Cask, The Chequers, Oxford. Pale hazy straw, thick white head. Clean ginger candy aroma, fresh and simple. Soft malt, gentle ginger flavor. Not a lot going on, but what’s there is really pretty decent.

Hand pulled at JDW Watford. In good condition but very ordinary beer with virtually no hop characture and almost undetectable presence of ginger. Not recommended.

Pale copper. Aroma of root ginger up front with grains and yeast in there as it warmed up. The mouthfeel was thin but I let it off for the floral and spicey hop and ginger marriage. Nice for summer, I’d have it again.
