Best Bitter
A true best bitter with plenty of body and flavor. The character of the ale, as with all Everards ales, is enhanced by the traditional technique of "Dry Hopping" - where whole, dry, aromatic hops are added by hand to each cask of the ale prior to conditioning. An ale which has almost universal appeal due to the exceptionally fine balance of English malt and hops. The finish is long, dry and extremely satisfying.

Date: 24/11/2005 Location: The White Swan, Leeds Railway Station Notes: Well balanced, amber coloured bitter. Nothing stunning but quite more-ish. Hints of nutmeg and oranges, with a grassy hop character.

Cask by handpump at The Doctors, Edinburgh - clear deep golden, thin creamy off-white head, no detectable aroma, excellent lacing, malty, apple flavour, thin bodied, mild sour malty aftertaste

Cask at the Seven Stars, Rugby, 06/03/13. Clear dark amber with a decent sized off white head that retains well. Nose is caramel malt, light spice, apples, biscuit. Taste follows - fruits, suggestion of hops, caramel. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, some bitterness in the finish. Average bitter - its appearance and mouthfeel drag it up a few notches!

Cask. Golden ale with a thick white head. Hoppy nose - lemon, lime, grapefruit - quite pungent. Warming in the mouth with some meaty cereal bready malts balancing that hoppy fruit. A little peach developing. Banana too. Quite tasty this.

Cask @ The Edgar Wallace. The pour’s light amber with a small, frothy head. The nose is pumpernickel bread, caramel, some grass and mild vinegar. The taste is more brown bread, acidic red apple skin. Caramel and a bit of salt. Obviously this isn’t on peak form. Light body. Overall, this is a boring bitter served in less than fantastic condition. What else is there to say?

Pint at the Almanac bar. Looks a dark amber. Smells hoppy, of caramel. Tastes bitter of course with hoppy yeasty notes.

Amber; tight white head; citrus fruit, a little (but not too much) grapefruit; smooth; notably dry and bitter throughout, including the finish; a quality, well balanced best bitter.

Cask @ The Bon Accord. Amber brown colour, reasonable head. Sour grassy malt aroma. Dry caramel malt flavour. Bitter aftertaste. Not a good bitter.
