Best Bitter
A true best bitter with plenty of body and flavor. The character of the ale, as with all Everards ales, is enhanced by the traditional technique of "Dry Hopping" - where whole, dry, aromatic hops are added by hand to each cask of the ale prior to conditioning. An ale which has almost universal appeal due to the exceptionally fine balance of English malt and hops. The finish is long, dry and extremely satisfying.

On tap at Handsworth Old Boys/Bridge Trust Cricket clubhouse, Birmingham. An unexpected and clearly underrated pleasure! Charming amber colour, with a tantalising and stable frothy head, which leaves a Dulux coating on the inside of the glass. Deliciously fresh, with caramel and biscuit to start, which feels full and chewy in the mouth. The second half is long and genuinely bitter - crispy and moreish. Very balanced and quaffable. Excellent.

Cambridge I think! Clear amber beer. Dry crisp palate. Nicely balanced. Tea like malt. Just a little bittering hop coming through at the end. Decent.

unclear caramelly light brown, smooth beige head. Mild aroma. Flavor is malty, grainy, bitter hoppy, not the usual bitter, flavor is more like a less roasted guinness. Some sugary sweetness towards the end. Untraditional

[Cask at the Hobgoblin, High Wycombe] Anber, slight white heaad. Toffee malt with orange fruit. Nothing spectacular, but it’s quietly comforting and mellow. One of the better mass-market bitters.

First tasted this in the Coach & Horses, Rotherwick in August 1982. A fantastic ale in a fantastic pub back then, sadly this is a recent review. Sampled this in the Saltcot, Saltcoats (JDW) in November 2010. Cask, handpump dispense. Crystal clear orange amber in colour with a thin creamy white head. Thin resiny mouthfeel and good lacing. Pale malts gives a basic digestive biscuit base with a touch of woody redcurrant fruit. Strong hop resins impart a dry bitter aftertaste which carries through into the bitter sweet finish. An ok session bitter but although this was in perfect condition, it was a shadow of its former self from ’82.
