3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 wheresthepath (1087) - Buckinghamshire, ENGLAND - FEB 11, 2012
[Cask at the Hobgoblin, High Wycombe] Anber, slight white heaad. Toffee malt with orange fruit. Nothing spectacular, but it’s quietly comforting and mellow. One of the better mass-market bitters.
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 tombyars (1102) - Saltcoats, SCOTLAND - DEC 8, 2011
First tasted this in the Coach & Horses, Rotherwick in August 1982. A fantastic ale in a fantastic pub back then, sadly this is a recent review. Sampled this in the Saltcot, Saltcoats (JDW) in November 2010. Cask, handpump dispense. Crystal clear orange amber in colour with a thin creamy white head. Thin resiny mouthfeel and good lacing. Pale malts gives a basic digestive biscuit base with a touch of woody redcurrant fruit. Strong hop resins impart a dry bitter aftertaste which carries through into the bitter sweet finish. An ok session bitter but although this was in perfect condition, it was a shadow of its former self from ’82.
