Cask; Occasional.
Our head brewer originally developed this special recipe in 1999 in celebration of Everards 150 years as a family business. This ale takes it lead from Everards most successful product - Tiger Best Bitter. It captures all the character and subtlety of the English-grown ingredients like Maris Otter Barley and Fuggles and Challenger Hops. The ale is a rich copper colour and the well-balanced taste embodies a subtle yet complex combination of malt and hop flavours.

First tasted this in Gabriels, Paisley in July 1999. Cask, handpump dispense. Rich ovaltine notes in the short aroma. Thin, creamy mouthfeel and good lacing. Pale malts gives a fiery digestive malt base with tart redcurrant fruit notes. Strong hop resins flood in to the aftertaste to give a dry bitter herbal note. Malty with orange peel present in the warming finish. An enjoyable ESB and well recommended.

A Mes rate. Cask handpull at the New Crown.
Golden brown faint white collar. Strange raspberry and medicinal notes. Plain and a little lifeless. Probably needs a little more time seeing as it’s just come on. Pleasant sweetish bready malt with an earthy hint in the finish. Standard but drinkable.

Cask (handpump) @ J.D Wetherspoon - Air side, London - Standsted Airport.
Clear medium amber orange color with a small to average, fizzy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, toasted, toffee notes, moderate hoppy, dusty. Flavor is moderate sweet and bitter with a average duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat. [20090420]

Cask handpull at Victoria Rail station Spoons. Copper colour with lasting beige head. It’a a strongish bitter with a bit of orangey fruit, some good drying hop on finish, bit of bite and some house yeast character. Fine.

Cask, stillage, at the Back of Beyond (JDW), Reading. Poured copper coloured with no head; balsamic aroma; syrupy texture, grainy and sweet with a trace of honey. Poor.

Last minute half, The Bell Hotel (JDW), Norwich. Deep orange amber capped with nitro slickness. Signature dried raisiny and dusty hop aroma, added glug of dried heady fruit, apricot maybe. Vanilla bready afters. No surprises.

Cask conditioned at a Wetherspoons. Amber with white head. Full and bitter with good dusty hops and an earthy character, slightly perfumed and swwetish malt. Pretty reasonable.

Cask-conditioned at the Knights Templar (JDW), Bristol 18/04/09. Deep amber with a moderate, off-white head. Aroma of fruity malt with some grassy hops. Flavour started with some sweet malts before a decent bitter finish. Ok, if not particularly memorable.

Cask at standing order (JDW) in ’Spoons Real Ale Festival, April ’09 ... copper light tan head ... light hop nose ... fruity juicy malts ... with light fruity hop ... quite mellow.

Cask at Globe, Lecester, RB crawl 2005. Has a whiff of sweet perfume to it, a sharpness too that seemed out of place, an OK bitter.
