THOUGHTS: Pungent at first, then weak. A little more earthy than what Iíd expect for a West Coast IPA. Nice with great balance, but nothing unique. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a clear, light to medium, orangey amber with an average, slightly off-white head that mostly diminished lasted and left excellent lacing. The aroma had light caramel; heavy pine, spruce, minty and earthy hops; and moderate grapefruit and orange hops. The initial flavor was lightly sweet and mod bitter; while the finish was slightly sweet and sour, moderately bitter and lightly acidic with an average duration. There was citrus, pin, spruce, citrus rind, and earthy hops, pale malt and caramel. The light to medium body was a little oily and then dry with very fizzy carbonation and a lightly dry finish.

Bottle, 50th rating for this brew. Nose is heavy fruit, tropical and very rindy with some earth and faint caramel, some woodier and earthy overtones. Orange-golden pour with slow, average carbonation and a sudsy beige head. Taste is dry with light tang, medium but developed bitterness and stronger levels of caramel and toffee, which blend nicely with the light pine and humus, rindier citrus thatís been burnished. Lightly crisp but a very heavy full body, a bit slimy, finishes dry with cracker and a bit of rye/pumpernickel, getting some great darker and earthier notes to match the wood and bitterness from the hops. Good balance and underrated at this point, methinks.

Can at the bbq. Aroma is bitter grass, lemon zest, and baking soda. Pours light blonde with medium carb and a small head. Taste is bitter citrus zest, lemongrass, and a metallic aftertaste. Mouthfeel is puckeringly bitter and ultimately unpleasant. Not for me.

12oz bottle. Pours golden with a white head. This one doesnít quite measure up. Off metallic aftertaste, not the usual hop flavors.

Golden bodied mildy hopped ale. The name had me expecting an over the top IPA. Evil Eye was more of a Pale Ale. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Copper color poured from 12oz bottle. Slight biscuit malt, slight touch of corn. Hop bitter without Juicy. Or floral, or fruit.

Poured from bottle. Aroma of mixed hops and ocean. Good lookin cloudy amber with a bit of lacing. Iím getting piney and grapefruit hop flavors with some toasted malt, but not enough malt for balance. Fruit notes. Aftertaste is earthy but also slightly metallic. This one misses the mark.

Bottle. Pours a clear copper body under a one finger fizzy off-white head that slowly receded. The nose is just lightly hoppy with a little bit of citrus. A little too much crystal malt sweetness coming thru in the aroma, itís pretty well over powering the hops. The flavor is about what I expected from the aroma, an overly sweet, heavy on the crystal malt, instant iced tea bomb. The hops are decently citrusy and bitter but they just canít stand up to all the underlying sweetness in here. Medium bodied and a little clingy with fizzy prickly carbonation. Not my preferred take on the style.

Darker orange colored body, medium sized white head, spotty lacing. Mellow citrus and floral hop notes, light crackery malts. Light bodied, lively carbonation, gentle bitterness, thin in places. Ok.

Do not let the name fool you into expecting an IPA as it did me. But that is okay as this is a very good pale ale. Evil Genius has some good stuff!

2oz sample at International Great Beer Expo (Meadowlands). Pours a clear orange color with a foamy off white head. Aroma of tangerine skins, citrus, and pale malt. Taste of bitter pine, tangerines, rotted citrus, and pale malt.
