THOUGHTS: Pungent at first, then weak. A little more earthy than what I’d expect for a West Coast IPA. Nice with great balance, but nothing unique. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a clear, light to medium, orangey amber with an average, slightly off-white head that mostly diminished lasted and left excellent lacing. The aroma had light caramel; heavy pine, spruce, minty and earthy hops; and moderate grapefruit and orange hops. The initial flavor was lightly sweet and mod bitter; while the finish was slightly sweet and sour, moderately bitter and lightly acidic with an average duration. There was citrus, pin, spruce, citrus rind, and earthy hops, pale malt and caramel. The light to medium body was a little oily and then dry with very fizzy carbonation and a lightly dry finish.

Bottle. Pours a clear copper body under a one finger fizzy off-white head that slowly receded. The nose is just lightly hoppy with a little bit of citrus. A little too much crystal malt sweetness coming thru in the aroma, it’s pretty well over powering the hops. The flavor is about what I expected from the aroma, an overly sweet, heavy on the crystal malt, instant iced tea bomb. The hops are decently citrusy and bitter but they just can’t stand up to all the underlying sweetness in here. Medium bodied and a little clingy with fizzy prickly carbonation. Not my preferred take on the style.

Darker orange colored body, medium sized white head, spotty lacing. Mellow citrus and floral hop notes, light crackery malts. Light bodied, lively carbonation, gentle bitterness, thin in places. Ok.

Do not let the name fool you into expecting an IPA as it did me. But that is okay as this is a very good pale ale. Evil Genius has some good stuff!

2oz sample at International Great Beer Expo (Meadowlands). Pours a clear orange color with a foamy off white head. Aroma of tangerine skins, citrus, and pale malt. Taste of bitter pine, tangerines, rotted citrus, and pale malt.

Serving: 12 oz. bottle from State Line Liquors. Muddy copper pour with a thin off white head. Solid pine and light citrus in the nose. Straight caramel and pine flavor wise with a slightly unbalanced bitterness. Very weak compared to it’s peers.

Slightly hazed amber appearance with an average size, off white head and modest lacing. Caramel malts crowd out the citrus in the aroma. Sharp, bitter, tinny flavor that mellows somewhat in the aftertaste. There is a bit of disparity within the 6pk, from appearance to finish. so the descriptors will vary and are listed as an approximation. Really Jekyll/Hyde-ish.

12oz. bottle. Brewed by Thomas Hooker, whats up with that? oh well. Small white head thats lasting with a nice spotty lace. Clear, amber appearence. Nose is minerally/metallic. Body is medium, decent carbonation, metallic. Flavor about like the aroma with some faint citrusy notes and thin caramel malts, hint buttery also. Dry finish, tame bite. meh. Bottle from statelineliquors.

pours an orangish copper with a minimal white head. This beer is lightly hoppy with a citrus peel taste, it has a mid range bitterness to it with a mild malty taste, a strong grapefruit flavor is also here.

Mild hop aroma, a lot more caramel notes then a usual IPA. Pours a clear light amber, with a full white head. Mild citrus hop presence, with a long lingering bitter finish. Not much going on with this beer, pretty middle of the road.
