3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 jjgmd (731) - Coral Springs, Florida, USA - APR 30, 2013
Pours a dark black color with a huge java colored head. Nose is full of hops and pine, with some nice sweetness. Taste is bitter and hoppy with a resinous quality. Finish is bitter and lingers with the same flavors. Quaff Score 7 / 10
2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20 ej (326) - Hauglandshella, NORWAY - MAR 31, 2013
Black pour, producing a large creamy head. Aroma is resiny, peppery and medicinal. Taste is medicinal bitterness with hints of roast towards the finish. Bottle has been on a shelf for well over a year, and I suspect this is the reason for this.
2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20 ClubGonzo (2689) - Bergen, NORWAY - MAR 31, 2013
Bottle, shared with Bergen Beer Geek Tasting Crew. Pours a pitch black body with a big off-white foamy head. Nose is mild fruity grassy hop tones, hints of licorice and herbal mints. Taste is medicinal strong grassy hops up front, to the point of unpleasantness. The aftertaste saves the beer somewhat, with nice tones of licorice and leather. Medium to full body, medium to fizzy carbonation. Weird, and not to my liking.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 JohnnyJ (3529) - San Diego, California, USA - MAR 17, 2013
Bottle. Hazy blackish pour, with a light tan head. Very bitter, bitter herbal hops, light roast, specialty malt, bitter unripe coffee beans, and lightly earthy. The bitterness hangs on the palate for minutes. It’s kinda of one noted and disjointed, but I still somewhat enjoyed it.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20 Braudog (5025) - Hampton, Virginia, USA - MAR 12, 2013
Bottle. Pours dark and brooding, the giant foam head straining at the glass, like an escaping riot of prisoners. The aroma, and the following first sip, are ripe with dirty, roasty, woodiness. The bitterness asserts itself with and assault on the middle of the tongue, astringent and grassy. There’s a bit of an ashy aspect lurking in the background. Interesting cacophony of things here. Bottle. Black colour with a beige head. Aroma is hop, pine, roasted malt, citrus. Flavour is roasted malt, hop, pine, coffee, citrus. Nice beer.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 dEnk (2632) - Den Haag, NETHERLANDS - FEB 16, 2013
Bottle @ home. Aroma is fruity and floral hops, slight sweaty touch. Flavour is medium hop bitterness with loads of flavour, fruity, floral, nelson madness. Some malty notes but it’s the hops that shine here. Great stuff.
3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20 obguthr (3225) - Poquoson, Virginia, USA - FEB 10, 2013
Licorice, pine needle, soil, and grapefuit nose. Black, thick tan sticky head. Charred oak, licorice and pine needle flavor. Charred malt bitterness and pine needle lingers too long on the palate. Somewhat resinous, but full of both malt and hop flavor.
2.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 9/20 biggirlpanties (100) - Maryland, USA - JAN 23, 2013
500mL split with GT2. Looking forward to this one. Disappointed immensely, doesn’t even taste like a beer or coherent beverage. Just harsh, papery bitterness over the top mixed with stale, specialty grain driven brown IPA. Undrinkable and not worth the calories. So much acrid flavor.
