When two gypsies team up with an arrogant bastard, there is bound to be some criminal activity...better to view this project as a conspiracy rather than a collaboration. The strengths of all involved were utilized to break the laws of style guidelines...dark with deception, mysteriously smoked, unexplainably dry, and intriguingly hoppy...maybe it’s best not to even talk about it.

Tasted on 5/8/13 from a capped 12oz bottle purchased at Sun Devil. Pours clear cola brown with an average tan head that slowly recedes to average, even lace. The nose is spicy Saison yeast with a touch of marshmallow, and plenty of dark roast with a hint of green hops. The flavor is more focused on the citrus hops and Saison yeast up front, moving to the interesting marshmallow thing, with the roasted coffee on the back of the palate. The body is on the lighter side of medium with lively carbonation and a long spicy yeast and roasted bitter finish.

Bottle at the beer authority NYC. Deep black almost pitch black. Didn't expect it to be a dark one. Very easy drinking nonetheless. Great interpretation ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Deep dark brown coloured body with a violet and ruby tint and a thinnish, half a centimetre tall light brown head. Aroma of pale malt, yeast, hay, soy sauce and some meat - not so good. Light to Medium-bodied; Odd taste up front of roasted malt then raisins then a thin grassy flavour and almost no final flavours except mushrooms and earth. Aftertaste is lacking with a little alcohol, some minor roasted malts and a hint of yeast complexity. Overall, a beer that is poor in execution and not really true to the name/made-up-style. If no names were on this bottle, i’m sure the rating wouldn’t be half as good as it is. Quite simply, this beer doesn’t deliver and if I’d do it again, I surely wouldn’t spend US$4.25 on this bottle. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from New Beer Distributors in New York, New York on 11-December-2012 for US$4.25, sampled at home in Washington on 05-May-2013.

I generally try to steer clear of the Belgian (and Belgian influenced) beers and ales, but this was surprisingly good. Very delicate smoky aroma and taste. Mouthfeel was pleasantly fizzy and the finish was long and seemed to settle around the sides of my tongue.
