Dark, even ruby brown with a cm of tan head. Aroma is slightly burnt caramel with light phenolics. First taste is bitter chocolate with burnt, herby, lemony acridness that punches in as a totally separate note and finishes in slightly smokey sulfur. Meh. $4/12oz

Bottle from Marczyk. Pours a lovely ebony with a dense tan head. Aroma is complex with cheese, smoke, bubblegum, papery hops. The palate is very creamy. The yeast is potent in the flavor, about as intense as it can get without being unpleasant. Strong spiced notes are in the flavor and plenty of bubblegum. The finish calms things down with chocolate and smoke. This is very different and complex. I like it.

Thanks, Moll. Faint roast and a touch of spice. Moderate roast in the flavor. Touch of chocolate. Faint pepper. Could use more yeast.

In mouth, a smooth chocolate roasted malt, with coriander, curacao, Brett and licorice notes, dry and powdery, very nice. On tap at Barcade NJ, Dec. 31 2012.

12 oz. bottle, thanks to Scott. It pours black with an off white head. The aroma is estery and lightly spicy with some smoke. The flavor is dry and roasty with a good amount of yeast esters, but not close to what I’d call a Saison. Not bad, but this didn’t strike the right chord with me. It seemed to fall short of being a good Saison and/or a good smoked beer.
