When two gypsies team up with an arrogant bastard, there is bound to be some criminal activity...better to view this project as a conspiracy rather than a collaboration. The strengths of all involved were utilized to break the laws of style guidelines...dark with deception, mysteriously smoked, unexplainably dry, and intriguingly hoppy...maybe it’s best not to even talk about it.

A: Pours thin with little head. Otherwise a little darker in color... S: Like a watered down saison. A bit of spice but very light. T: Its pretty gross. There is little smoke to it... super light. Offputting bitterness. Sasion charachter is dull. Super sour, also hops are dull. P: Very acidic on the palate. Flat. Overall this beer is pretty terrible. I had poured it my bag to do a beerinade but I made the mistake of not tasting it first. It was so offputting I dumped out my marinade and remade it as not to ruin the steaks. (Also if you are looking for a good beerinade use Curmudions old ale from Founders.... soooo good) This beer is a poor showing in style as well as just an average beer.

Rather simple and straight forward considering the 3 involved. Very soft chocolate malt and hint of smoke on the nose. Simple malt grain flavours, with some slight smokiness and a it of hops on the back end. Missing any kind of quality to stand out from the pack.

I actually had this one from a bottle pour into an empty soda cup at a Del Taco... had to drink before getting to the airport

Sampled on 3/21/2013. This Saison pours a very dark black color from a 12oz bottle. Medium sized white/beige foamy head. The aroma is roasted malt, coffee, spices, a touch of smoke and some hops. A medium to light bodied saison. The malts are roasty, chocolate and coffee. The hops are herbal and grapefruity. Decent carbonation. Not sure the black saison idea works all that well the roasty and spicy seem to conflict some. There is also a slightly tart/funky thing going on at the finish. Interesting but even more conflicts. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter and funky.

Total Wine, Fairfax 12oz: Pours black with a beige head. Aroma is spicy, pepper, citrus, but not too much funk. Taste is somewhat bitter, kind of dry, and pretty spicy. There is also some sugar in there. Good, but not great.

From notes: Poured black, with some deep red notes, and a small, thin mocha-colored head. Aroma has a sweet caramelly note mixed with earthy yeast funk and some light smoke. Medium body with a brief, slightly dry finish. Flavor is coffee-like, with smoky notes, before giving way to yeast funk in the finish.
