3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
It was ok but not nearly as good as their Saison du Buff. The smoked flavor kind of ruined it for me.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a carbonated looking black with a lighter and thinner beige head. I get a some different things in the aroma. Smoke, bubblegum, fruity citrus hops, Belgian spices, and roasted malts. None are truly dominant over the others, which leaves the fact that they all are more subtle. The taste is grapefruit, Belgian yeast, floral hops, grass, all along with a smokiness that lies underneath. This one has some champagne like carbonation. Medium in body with a kind of sticky texture. Overall, this is pretty complex. Its good, but I think there is a little to much going on here.

4.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
0.355l bottle.Dark brown/black body with a nice beige head. Aroma of champagne yeast with lots of chocolate and cherries. Flavor of smoke, champagne and cherries. The finish is smoky and dry. Itís one of the most interesting beers Iíve ever had. It really has the yeasty, dry character of a saison but the extra ingregients make it very complex, yet easy drinking. Itís awesome.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: FEB 7, 2013 Assuming that this is Stillwaters yeast I let the bottle warm up before I poured it. Pours a deep brownish mahogany with a tan head. A compelling aroma of herbs, blueberries, a slight smokiness, and lavender impresses. The Slightly tart fruit flavor ends with a sweet and savory note. Very complex brew, I will for sure buy this one again.

Dark brown pour at Papago. I really enjoy the play of the hops, smoke and saison yeasty goodness! The hops hit first, then a nutty, yeasty flavor followed by some really well integrated smoke. Good stuff.

This was quite yummy. Very subtle smoke appeared more at the back of the sip. Slightly sour but gave a over all winey-ness. Very pleasantly surprised. Serving: bottle

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
12oz bottle: pours a clear dark mahogany with a spotty-lacing light tan head. Has a lightly sweet dark malty nose with good smoke character and some resiny hops along with a touch of light fruity esters. Starts with good fullness and toasted malty sweetness with some coffee undertones and fresh smoke drying out slightly before a lingering bittersweet finish. Unique and enjoyable.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
12oz. bottle from Ryan and Casey Liquors Greenfield, MA. Aroma is light roasted malt and citrus hops. The flavor is really muted. Itís reminds me of a weak smoked porter. Where is the Belgian yeast? It does have a light citrus hop in the finish but overall, a bland disappointment. Medium bodied, lower on carbonation. I think some of the hybrids created recently need to die. I havenít had a ďBlackĒ Saison that I really liked yet. Donít spend your money on this one.

Bottle. Pours a rich dark brown with white head. Notes of ginger, pine, and toasted malts. Finishes crisp and clean for a dark beer.
