When two gypsies team up with an arrogant bastard, there is bound to be some criminal activity...better to view this project as a conspiracy rather than a collaboration. The strengths of all involved were utilized to break the laws of style guidelines...dark with deception, mysteriously smoked, unexplainably dry, and intriguingly hoppy...maybe itís best not to even talk about it.

A deep dark brown saison with a thin super lacing mocha head. In aroma, a smooth sweet caramel malt with light peated notes, rye, coriander, orange peels, thyme and Brett notes. In mouth, a smooth chocolate roasted malt, with coriander, curacao, Brett and licorice notes, dry and powdery, very nice. On tap at Barcade NJ, Dec. 31 2012.

Black in color with a good sized beige head. Aroma is of roasted malt, soil, light smoke, tree bark, booze. Taste is of roasted malt, musty, dirt.

Bottle. The look is dark, brown black in color, light decent beige head. The smell is smoke, malts, yeast, fruits, and burnt toast. The taste is fruits, light smoke, toast, and eh.

12 oz. bottle, thanks to Scott. It pours black with an off white head. The aroma is estery and lightly spicy with some smoke. The flavor is dry and roasty with a good amount of yeast esters, but not close to what Iíd call a Saison. Not bad, but this didnít strike the right chord with me. It seemed to fall short of being a good Saison and/or a good smoked beer.

Dark brown-amber with a moderate beige head. Filmy lacing. Aroma of yeast, roast, and sweet fruit. Smoke dominates the taste, and there is an elevated level of bitterness for a saison. Itís got a weird, and a little bit muddy flavor, but itís still pretty good. Medium bodied and dry. Not bad; different.

Pours clear medium brown color with tan head. Aromas of light smoke, toasted malts, with some citrus and dark fruits. Light smoke and citrus flavors with some yeast, toasted malts and earthiness. Light to medium body with average carbonation. Kind of a strange beer but interesting. I wasnít sure what to expect but I enjoyed it.

Pours a deep umber mahogany color with a three finger eggshell head that laces and sticks for the beers longevity. On the nose the aromas are restrained but nice traces of dark earthy malt, peppery cola, citrus and smoke. The palate follows the nose with a nice complexity and balance. Ripe dark fruit, yeasty spice, citrus hops and smoked malt. Nice dry finish.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a dark brown to black color with a small beige head. The aroma has light roast and smoke, herbal notes, anise, floral and earthy notes with some yeast. The flavor is dry, light smoke and roast, herbal, earthy, anise hints, and a splash of dark chocolate. I was interested to try this and feel like it landed a bit short for me.

Bottle. A deep mahogany pour with a skim of a tan head. The earthy aroma features some caramel, roasted malts, toasted pumpernickel, light smoke, a hint of anise, pine, and touches of bananas & lemons in the background. Goes down relatively thin to medium-bodied. Light caramel and roasted dark malts upfront taste-wise. Kinda earthy with a charred woodsiness in the middle. Mildly spicy. A dry, piney finish that lingers. Kinda blah. Rather disappointing considering this was produced by some of my favorite brewers.

Aroma of a smoky sock with a bit of spice and rye. Quite a bit of rye and burnt wood on the taste. It is OK.
