When two gypsies team up with an arrogant bastard, there is bound to be some criminal activity...better to view this project as a conspiracy rather than a collaboration. The strengths of all involved were utilized to break the laws of style guidelines...dark with deception, mysteriously smoked, unexplainably dry, and intriguingly hoppy...maybe it’s best not to even talk about it.

Dark brown with a foamy dense tan head. Fruity musty yeasty and tart aroma. Flavor is like a beer suicide. Chocolate, sourness, wild yeasty notes and an insane bitterness all wrapped up in one with a touch of dark fruit. The end.

From a bottle poured a dark brown color with a small amount of head. Toasted malty flavor with a lingering aftertaste.

Bottle from Chuck's: pours blackish brown, dense tan head that persists. Stillwater yeast, fruitiness, smoked malts and hints of anise on the nose. Coffee bitterness, anise and fairly dry on the finish. This is a smoked Saison that holds up pretty well but I hoped for a little bit more. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Very dark brown, verging on black in appearance with little to now head. Aroma is slightly smokey, with belgian yeast aroma typical to the style. Flavor is very smoky, with the belgian flavors coming through as well, also a slight bitterness, some oaky flavors at the end. Finishes dry and slightly astringent. Beer is rather thinm but full of flavor. Decent.

Pours black with a small head for the style. Smell is smoke, yeast funk, black currant, bit of spice, and some candy sweet smell. Medium mouthfeel and flat for a saison. Fruity flavor, spice, not a lot of smoke. A little funky with some oaky taste and a strange musty bitterness. Finishes dry. Pretty unique, but not blown away by this. Not a bad beer, but not one I would order again.

I knew going into this it I probably wouldn't like it, but these collab bottles are so intriguing I couldn't pass it up. Smell is smoky, peppery saison smell. Appearance is very nice--dark, almost black but ruby red when held up to the light with a one inch velvety head. Taste is where it goes bad for me. Tastes like it smell, but big on the pepper and barbecue smoke. There's saison there too, and a slight malt sweetness in the background to smooth out the hops and smoke. Almost could be mistaken for a scotch ale cause of the peat like smoke. It's an interesting beer I am glad I tried it, but I wouldn't drink it again. That said, I'm not a rauchbier kinda guy. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12oz bottle from Schaumberg Binnys. Very dark brown pour with a red hue. Half inch beige head. Aroma had a campfire smokiness to it. Also the common Belgian scents - soapy sweetness clove backbone with lots of fragrant perfume-y herb/flowers (lavender, jasmine, etc.). Taste is indicative of a well balanced Belgian-yeasty overall, flavors of cloves, banana, and some tart floral hops. Finish is reminiscent of slow roasted barbecue, like smoky brisket or ribs. Somewhat subtle finish overall, not too dry but certainly clean. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
