COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
When two gypsies team up with an arrogant bastard, there is bound to be some criminal activity...better to view this project as a conspiracy rather than a collaboration. The strengths of all involved were utilized to break the laws of style guidelines...dark with deception, mysteriously smoked, unexplainably dry, and intriguingly hoppy...maybe itís best not to even talk about it.

Pours black with a fluffy off-tan head. Aroma is Belgian yeast, cocoa, spicy, earthy, some funk (brett?), pine, brown sugar. Taste is interesting and somewhat complex with that signature Stone bitterness. Crisp and refreshing with some fruity notes at the start, quickly becomes grassy and herbal with bitterness and some acidity, rounds off with something I canít quite place (caramel or toffee?) and a bitter finish of lemon peel with a touch of cocoa. Some nice lacing. Medium carbonation. Nice full mouth feel. Overall, different but not bad. I would drink more of these, absolutely.

dalekliz (885) - San Diego, California, USA - NOV 21, 2012
Bottle. Pours a deep black with an off-white head that lingers and leaves a lot of lacing. Aroma of burnt, toasted malt, wood, grass, chocolate. Taste has a lot going on, dry toasted malt, wood, spices and finishes with sweeter tart fruits and hops. Lingering crisp toasted malt and underripe fruits that ends a bit watery. Kind of weird but it works pretty well.

12 oz bottle from BevMo Valencia. Nose is lightly farmhouse funk, light amounts of chocolate, and a little smoke. Clear very dark brown with a medium, heavy lacing, tan head. Flavor is lightly tart and funky with some light bitterness.

skmikeg (1047) - Cherry Hill, New Jersey, USA - NOV 20, 2012
Pours pitch black a small tan head which does not last long. Aroma is of smoke, roasted malts, wet hay funk, some bakers coco, some wood, and Belgian spices. Taste is smoked wood, roasted malts, citrus, some floral hops, some coco, faint espresso, and some saison spices. Has medium body with a slighty creamy, well carbonated mouthfeel and a dry, semi bitter, slightly funky, smokey finish. overall, a interesting and pretty tasty hybrid of a rachbier and saison.

Bottle. Black pour with light brown head. Some hops, yeast and funky Belgian tones, nice saison notes. Flavor is a by more subtle, but not lacking by any means.

Mmm, nah. Like a porter blended with a light sour. I would have preferred them to be separated, or at least reworked. Itís not a crime. It shouldnít be discouraged though. Maybe Iím not ready for this: Haute...

J_man (738) - Tustin, California, USA - NOV 18, 2012
Coffee and woody campfire smoke aromas. Dark, crystal clear mahogany red color with a wispy beige head. Usually that kind of smoky aroma means a Rauchbier which Iíve never developed a taste for, but here the smoke perfectly matches the dark chocolate sweetness and espresso bitterness. You can almost taste charred wood and grain, but itís somehow held back just enough that itís delicious and interesting without being overwhelming. There seems to be some earthy, even flowery hop bitterness here, but the charred dryness seems to either mix with or cover this. Leaves behind a nice coffee, graphite dryness and a little bittersweet chocolate. Another excellent Stone collaboration ale.

halfonit (1192) - Fall River, Massachusetts, USA - NOV 18, 2012
Pours a dark brown color with a little cloudiness . Aroma is of grass, chocolate, faint smoke, toffee, and light spices. Palate is a little lighter than expected. Flavors in this are cocoa, dark chocolate, roastiness, slight earthiness, roasty/toasty, and smoke finish. This is basically a light rauch beer. Actually pretty disappointing in my opinion.

That1Guy (1988) - Greeley, Colorado, USA - NOV 18, 2012
12 oz bottle pours a clear brown with a sticky head. Very astringent at first. Once it warms, it opens up a bit. Definite Saison tendencies on the nose. Flavor is still pretty astringent, with bitter malts and smoke fighting with each other and creating a bit of a mess. Just ok.

pours a pitch black with fluffy, long lasting brown head, nice lacing. Aroma is somewhat yeasty, with nothing especially pronounced. Medium bodied, lower on carbonation than you would expect although not in a bad way. The flavor is a progression starting with yeasty notes, moving to soft, nuanced smoke, and then lingering dark chocolate / coffee tones on a bitter finish. Overall an interesting brew although not something I would have again.
