3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle pour. It lives up to its description as a smoked saison. A tobacco taste mixed with earthy, grass funk. Very unique and well done.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 12/20
The nose is pleasantly herbal with hints of dark fruit. A black pour displaying garnet highllights when held to the light. It supports a long lastng tan head, which produces abundant ringed lacing. Tobacco, smoke, herbs, and burnt grain ply the pallet with a hop induced bitter finish A grainy, yet faintly sweet aftertaste lingers. Light body with crisp carbonation. A dry mouthfeel. Oveall, while this may not be a "true" Saison, you can taste its influences. This is a well crafted and rewardingly drinkable beer.

Bottle @ Olutravintola Kukko, Kemi. Dark brown beer with a small beige head. Aroma has roasted malt, citrus, yeast and smoke. Flavour is some roasted malts, light smoke, some chocolate. A bit light palate but quite nice beer still.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
12 ounce bottle. Pours a very dark brown color with a medium cream colored head. A sweet yeasty and chocolate nose. Light smoke, saison yeast, chocolate, toffee, citrus hops, melds together really well. Comes together like a roasted saison a bit. Maybe the hops have mellowed. Smoke lingers. Surprisingly good.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
12 oz bottle: pour is almost black with some ruby hues in the light. Creamy sand colored head. Aroma is slightly sweet and tart. Hints of roast and funkiness. Not really getting any smoke. Roasty, hoppy flavors dominate the flavor. Think and dry. Really drinkable. Still no smoke though.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours dark cola brown with a light-tan head. Very nice barnyard thing going on in the aroma, hops a bit more forward in the nose than I had expected. Very faint smoky char. Flavor fails to live up to the intriguing aroma. Slightly sweet early, fairly minimal funk, turning roasty and exhibiting a subtle smoke before turning to some hop snap toward the close. I wouldn’t have called it a saison by flavor alone. Slightly oily palate. I can’t help but think of a saison-y black IPA.Pretty good beer even if not a brilliant stylistic invention.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Poured from a bottle. Pours a dark black with a small beige head. Hoppy aroma. Initial sweetness which becomes slightly bitter. Bottled in 2012. Don't know if age has affected the flavor.

Bottle shared at a tasting at our place. Thank you Excellent Little Brother for delivering this bottle! Coke-colour and tan ring, peak, pen ink aroma, sweet with bitter undertones, smooth texture, medium body, a little roasty finish.

3.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
2012 bottle that’s been in my fridge since I bought it, served in a tulip. Charcoal color liquid in the glass with an off white head. Moderately well laced. Faint aroma that is really hard to detect. My only aromatic synapse is dark rye seed. Taste is light but not whimpy. Farmhouse yeast presents itself first with a slightly fruity quality. Next up is charred malt grain and a whisper of smoke. I think the smoke is only present because I know it to be there. The smokiness could easily be mistaken for dark roasted malt. One thing is for sure that this is exceptionally well crafted; the flavors meld together seamlessly, including the hops that provide an aromatic touch. I was expecting a smoky Saison and while this isn’t as bold as I had hoped, it is probably a lot better.
