COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
When two gypsies team up with an arrogant bastard, there is bound to be some criminal activity...better to view this project as a conspiracy rather than a collaboration. The strengths of all involved were utilized to break the laws of style guidelines...dark with deception, mysteriously smoked, unexplainably dry, and intriguingly hoppy...maybe it’s best not to even talk about it.

12 ounce bottle from Beer Run. Pours a dark brown color with a large brown head. Good head retention. Aroma of mild smoke, chocolate, nutty notes. The taste is stone fruits, mild roast, mild smoke, citrus and a hoppy finish. Interesting.

Bottle @ Exira Beer Summit III. Pours a deep brown appearance with a small, cream colored head. Minty spicy, a bit woody smoky, lightly peppery aroma. Burnt chocolate malty, sprucey, slight smoky/tar, light black peppery flavor. Kind of interesting but not my favorite.

Bottle. Dark brown beer with a light tan head. Smoke and yeast aroma with light citrus and light caramel. Smoke and yeast flavor with citrus. Medium bodied. Citrus and yeast linger with light smoke.

12oz bottle pours dark brown with some deep ruby red colored hues and a thin tan head of foam. The aroma is full and offers up a mix of lime, funky yeast and soured molding grapefruit. Interesting taste where modest roasted malts and maltiness meet lime and grapefruit and a bit of moldy funk. This creates a fairly pleasing combination of flavors for me.

Tap at The Salted Pig. Poured a deep near black with medium coffee foam. Good lacing. Nose is sage, black pepper, herbal, mild smoke. Taste is dusty, dry, herbal, toasty, black peppercorn. Lemon tea finish. Interesting black saison. Muted to almost no smoke character makes it past the herbal onslaught.

Bottle. Pours a nice deep brown to black with a medium sized head. Some light estery yeast and musk on the nose. I don’t really get much smoke, just smells like a nice floral saison. Medium bodied, esters and a bit of grassiness. Really no smoke or roast coming through here. Sweet wheat comes through, a bit of muskiness. Drinking this blind I’d never think this was dark in color, none of that comes through at all. Tasty but not what I was hoping for.

Bottle. Head is initially small, frothy, light brown, mostly diminishing. Body is dark brown. Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (cocoa powder, roasted grain), with strong notes of peppercorn, lemon juice, eucalyptus/menthol, alcohol. Flavor is moderately sweet, moderately acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, moderately acidic, moderately bitter, slightly unclean, slightly husky. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic. Smoked, seriously? There ain’t a gol-durn trace of smoke in my bottle. Roasted grain, sure. But no smoke. Pretty much all it smells like is choco-roast malt, peppercorns, and a medicinal Vicks VapoRub sorta thing. Sour and dirty in the mouth. Amazing that this was considered successful enough to bottle. Sad.

Bottle and served in small snifter: Pours a deep brown with ruby highlights topped by a fading head and spotty lace. The aroma has notes of light smoke, roast, walnuts, cardamom, clove, very light bubblegum and earthy belgian yeast character. Some herbal and resiny hop esters too. The taste is mildly smoky and earthy, some woody notes over a layer of toasted nuts. Hint of coffee and hop as well before a light non-descript spice finish. The mouth feel is sort of watery and chalky, weakest part of brew IMO. It is not bad but not what it should have or could have been. One and done.

12-oz. Pours black with a dense and creamy dark tan head. Not much lace. Big smoke sweet nose, smells like smoked black liquorice jerky. Creamy medium body with lively carb. Campfire, ash, and black liquorice on the mid-palate. Ashy salty campfire finish.
