COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
When two gypsies team up with an arrogant bastard, there is bound to be some criminal activity...better to view this project as a conspiracy rather than a collaboration. The strengths of all involved were utilized to break the laws of style guidelines...dark with deception, mysteriously smoked, unexplainably dry, and intriguingly hoppy...maybe itís best not to even talk about it.

12 ox bottle from Giant Eagle Route 8 in Pittsburgh. As black and mysterious as your favorite film noir. A brilliant smokiness adds to the appeal. Perfection!

Pours dark mahogany with a small tan head. Smells both of funk and smoke. Taste is smoky with some funkiness. Light-to-medium bodied with a wet texture and light fizzy mouth-carbonation, Evil Twin/Stillwater/Stone The Perfect Crime Black Smoked Saison finishes with a touch of smoked funk.

Bottle. Pours a near black color with a moderate light tan head. Nose has a hint of sourness to it with some roasting in there as well. Taste is actually superbly balanced with an intriguing melding of flavors. Great beer.

0.355l bottle.Dark brown/black body with a nice beige head. Aroma of champagne yeast with lots of chocolate and cherries. Flavor of smoke, champagne and cherries. The finish is smoky and dry. Itís one of the most interesting beers Iíve ever had. It really has the yeasty, dry character of a saison but the extra ingregients make it very complex, yet easy drinking. Itís awesome.

Coffee and woody campfire smoke aromas. Dark, crystal clear mahogany red color with a wispy beige head. Usually that kind of smoky aroma means a Rauchbier which Iíve never developed a taste for, but here the smoke perfectly matches the dark chocolate sweetness and espresso bitterness. You can almost taste charred wood and grain, but itís somehow held back just enough that itís delicious and interesting without being overwhelming. There seems to be some earthy, even flowery hop bitterness here, but the charred dryness seems to either mix with or cover this. Leaves behind a nice coffee, graphite dryness and a little bittersweet chocolate. Another excellent Stone collaboration ale.

Interesting hybrid. Saison base with a black IPA overlayer. I'm not sure if I'd say the whole is greater than the sum of the parts, but it's definitely not lesser. Overall, I'm intrigued and think it's good -- can't pigeonhole it or truly compare it to saisons or black IPAs. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle purchased at Stone World Bistro, and consumed in Minnesota (like that even matters). Booze and dark fruit greet the nose. Smells awfully boozy for an ABV <7%. But turns out after first sip that what I detected as booze was actually smoke that is quite obvious now. Surprised I didnít detect it after opening the bottle since you can smell the smoke from a couple of feet away. Almost fully opaque black body with some faint reddish brown notes when held up to light. Thin light tan head that appears lighter in stark contrast to the pitch black liquid below. Leaves an intriquite lace. Served a little cold (by me) and so after letting it warm a bit the complexity of the flavors emerge and impress. Hops and smoke in the same beer?!? Unfortunately my conscience may force me to share my second bottle with wellestone, for whom those two flavor profiles are 2nd to none. Add to that some brett to make it a dark saison and you have a triangulation of collaboration. Well done to all three brewers.
