UPDATED: NOV 30, 2014 Quite good smoky beer with a pleasant aftertaste. A bit expensive but it’s worth the price.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Black body with a small disappearing beige head. Aroma is smoky, big surprise there, roasted coffee, ash. Taste follows the smoky theme, adding tar, dark chocolate, light sweetness, with a burned malt finish. Sounds a simple beer but it’s perfectly balanced and very well crafted, quite enjoyable!

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle (12 oz). Courtesy of czar, thanks! Dark brown with with a dark brown head and some lacing. Aroma is smokey with tobacco notes, chocolate and coffee notes. Taste is also smokey (not overpowering though) with tobacco again, chocolate, coffee, light fruitiness and hints of alcohol. Medium body. A tad weak for the style/abv. Moderate carbonation. Short aftertaste. Good balance. Nice smokiness. Quite tasty. With a little more body, this one would be excellent.

UPDATED: SEP 4, 2014 Black as night with thin off white head smell of smoke obvious. Full mouth feel with milder taste and more sweet that Yin, by same brewer, has nice over all flavor, bitters up at end but not bad.

3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Whoa, wow. Big waft; surreal! The moment the lid comes off, little evidence of life once the seal is broken, the aroma fills the room. Charcuterie meat, peat, heather and kelp tickle the olfactories as does so much smoke and ash - got the name right! The alcohol smudged in there somewhere. Quite poignant. It settles with more than two thirds foam atop an inky back body. Highly carbonated (well unexpected), the head is fuelled for the length and this gives the palate a prickly, champagne-like effervescence. Good body underneath, but remains masked. Hot, fusel alcohol burn to the finish is a little harsh. Smoky, ash-tray and charred, smoke-house meats dominate the flavour. Peaty, earthy and robust. Lasting with woody, nutty notes coming through and a little dried, mace and cassia bark spice lingering on the tongue keeping it lively. This is the first Evil Twin I’ve actually enjoyed. It is a pungent cocktail of malts but it works. Nice! (33cL, The Liquor Shed, Jandakot)
