3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours balck with a very frothy brown head aroma is roasted malt, hickory, and bittersweet chocolate. Taste is impressive, smokey wood and roasty toast flavors, body is more lively and thin than most imperial stouts...which lends to the drinkability of this beer. Very nice

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle poured a dark cola with a large mocha head and notable lacing. Aroma is smokey with a hint of pine, but peaty notes are overwhelming. Taste similarly starts with enjoyable smoke, but again the peat overwhelms any other flavors. Unenjoyable aftertaste after the finish. The peaty flavors are just not for me.

Tap. Black with small light brown head. Aroma is campfire, ash, light roast, earthy hops, marzipan. Taste is medium bitter with a roasted ashy finish with a bit of sweetness. Medium body, average carbonation. This is what happens when you let Varg Vikernes get too close to a stave church.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Draft at Monks Cafe. Pitch black (or maybe pitch brown.) with a slim light brown head. Big smoke off the top. Smoked bacon. Burnt wood. Medium-full body with a lot of very dark notes. Leather. Charcoal. Sweet smoked ham. Vinyl. Thickish, but not creamy. More a smokehouse flavor than an ashtray. Likely more peaty and smoky than most people may desire, but still pretty great. Certainly not a session beer, but a very nice juicy smoked brew.

Deep black brew with some tan head. Big time smoke on the nose with some roasted malt, and a bit of chocolate. Flavor is smoke forward as well.

Nice dark pour with a tan head, nice bitter smoke notes like a charred innards of a Islay barrel. Tasty in the palate if you like that kind of smoke. Could probably have a heavier alcohol Quite astringent and oily finish with tasted coffee on the close. Enjoyable, but probably a marmite beer!

Bottle. Creamy lightbrown excellent fully lasting head. Black colour. Heavy malty and moderate hoppy aroma. Some rauch notes. Moderate bitter not very pleasent flavor. Some ugly bacon smoked notes. Average moderate bitter finish. Oily palate. Not my kind of beer, but nice looking.
