4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: DEC 18, 2011 14th September 2011
On tap at the Craft Beer. Opaque black beer, short lived tan head. Light crispish palate (especially for a big beer). Minerals. Good rich dark malts which are free of bitterness and roast. A little dark chocolate. Nice sherbetty fruit salad things going on. Just a tiny bit of smoke. Minerally finish. Nice and not the smoke bomb I was expecting. Original rating 3.7.

Bottle. Opaque black beer, decent tan head. Softish palate, dry with some fine crispy carbonation livens this up. Tangy dark malt, notably and pleasantly fruity. Creamy malt. Well judged smoke. Minerals. Semi dry finish with more vibrant dried fruits. Delicious! I’ve not had a better smoked beer.

4.7 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Straight from the fireplace! Everything of a perfect porter: black appearance, nearly no head; strong aroma of roasted coffee beans and dark chocolate. Taste is very complex: full coffee and chocolate as from nose, roasted malts and a heavy (in the positive way) smoky feeling. Creamy and sticky on lips, a long lasting malty bitterness in the mouth. Booze hidden. Bomb!

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Dark coffee, dark chocolate, licorice and black malt in the aroma. The flavor is coffee beans, dark chocolate and black malt. Heavy bitterness that fills the mouth forever. Really good and powerful beer. Takes a while to drink. Enjoyable. Follow me @ Kung av öl @ Facebook for more pictures and ratings.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Dark body, brown head, not much retention, but looks nice. Roasted malt and a touch of smoke in the aroma. Taste is roasted malt, a faint hint of smoke, kind of watery. Mellow palate. Kind of disappointed with this one. I’m guessing there was something off with this bottle/batch as it’s not the "overpowering" experience of the description or in the comments of other raters.

5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
Large beautiful and impressive light brown foam. I love Jeppe ’s (master brewer) own description of this beer: ’Unlikely viscous, seductive dark and smoking good. Yes a real heartbreaker. We recommend that only really trained beerchamps can take on this fiendishly addictive and overwhelming good smoked stout. Beware, many experience a slight placebo effect if swallowed’.
Am I a well-trained beerchamp? I do not know, for it is not a term I have used on myself. Otherwise, I fully agree with the description. It is viscous and seductive and really smoked. It is a Nils Oscar Rökporter and a Aecht Schlenkerla at the same time, namely with a good deal of smoked malt. A little to the cool side, where you almost feel what it must feel like to lick the skin from a smoked eel. Overwhelming good, it is also because there is left room for coffee flavor and dark bitter chocolate. Addictive I would also like to join. Especially on a cold autumn or winter evening. It brings namely warmth and comfort throughout the body, and it is certainly addictive in the long term. The placebo effect is immediately worse to relate to, for is it not something that, for example. ill patients may feel themselves healthy just by the belief that the doctor prescribed calcium tablets is a newly developed wonderful medicine? If Jeppe therefore believe that beer drinkers can be tricked into thinking that Ashtray Heart is a profound delicate smoked stout, which in reality is brewed from coincidences, then he is mistaken. I can taste that this is really good and well-brewed craft beer. So maybe I’m actually a well-trained beer champ!
