3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours an opaque deep, dark brown--just shy of black. Tremendously huge head (despite my best efforts to control it during the pour) that is dark tan in color and pillowy, yet dense in texture. As head settles somewhat, a good bit of lacing remains. Aroma is of peat and licorice, with some piney, resinous character in the background. Smoky, but not in a salty, rauchbier way. As pronounced as the aroma was, I was completely unprepared the for wallop of flavor. Strong doesn’t even begin to describe how it hit me--flavor of sour cherries mixed with smoked wood. Some roasted malts are evident, as is hop bitterness, but there is really a sour-sweet flavor taste driving the beer. It’s rather unexpected to be honest. Although the alcohol is not--very forward. Palate is also unexpected, as the beer is surprisingly watery. In sum: A flavorful smoked stout, but one that may not be to everyone’s liking. Worth a try, however, if you’re a fan of beers like Bell’s Cherry Stout.

2.8 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Black as night with thin off white head smell of smoke obvious. Full mouth feel with milder taste and more sweet that Yin, by same brewer, has nice over all flavor, bitters up at end but not bad.

3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Whoa, wow. Big waft; surreal! The moment the lid comes off, little evidence of life once the seal is broken, the aroma fills the room. Charcuterie meat, peat, heather and kelp tickle the olfactories as does so much smoke and ash - got the name right! The alcohol smudged in there somewhere. Quite poignant. It settles with more than two thirds foam atop an inky back body. Highly carbonated (well unexpected), the head is fuelled for the length and this gives the palate a prickly, champagne-like effervescence. Good body underneath, but remains masked. Hot, fusel alcohol burn to the finish is a little harsh. Smoky, ash-tray and charred, smoke-house meats dominate the flavour. Peaty, earthy and robust. Lasting with woody, nutty notes coming through and a little dried, mace and cassia bark spice lingering on the tongue keeping it lively. This is the first Evil Twin I’ve actually enjoyed. It is a pungent cocktail of malts but it works. Nice! (33cL, The Liquor Shed, Jandakot)

From a bottle. Pours dark brown/black with a creamy light brown head. Tastes like roasted malt, ash, light tobacco, alcohol, light earth, and molasses. Nicely balanced complex flavor. Dry feel, light/medium body and low carbonation. Smells like ash, tobacco, alcohol, andight sweet cocoa.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Very Piceous black and viscous pour with a rich mahogany brown head. The nose is right smoky upfront with big cured meats and black strap molasses. A bit sharp at the end of the flavor with a metallic note. Big and heavy flavor with smoke dominating things. Touch of camp fire. Full body .

Flaska från Khioskh, Cph. Svart öl med brunt skum. Doften är rostad med lakrits, mörk choklad och blöt aska. De rostade tonerna av malt och kaffe är de mest framträdande de rökta, askiga tonerna kompletterar. Riktigt god.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Pours dark brown with a large mocha colored head. Aroma is of, well, smoke. Flavor is sweet and slightly bitter with a smoky aftertaste that lingers in the mouth. Body is thick. This is a high gravity beer and the alcohol is well hidden. This ranks among the best smoked beers I have tried, including ...uh....

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle pours dark, small cream head. Big smokey nose, chocolate. Taste follows with dark chocolate upfront, some espresso. The smoke foundation is from first sip into the after taste. Medium body, well done.
