Danish: Usandsynlig tyktflydende, forførende mørk og smoking good.
Ingredienser: vand, malt, peated malt, humle, gær.
English Language Label: Amazingly rich, seductively dark and smoking good. Yes a real heartbreaker. We recommend only the truly skillful, heavyweight beer champions to battle this awfully addictive and overpowering smoked Stout. Be careful because this is the real deal with a minor Placebo effect. Makes invalids out of supermen.

Pours an opaque deep, dark brown--just shy of black. Tremendously huge head (despite my best efforts to control it during the pour) that is dark tan in color and pillowy, yet dense in texture. As head settles somewhat, a good bit of lacing remains. Aroma is of peat and licorice, with some piney, resinous character in the background. Smoky, but not in a salty, rauchbier way. As pronounced as the aroma was, I was completely unprepared the for wallop of flavor. Strong doesn’t even begin to describe how it hit me--flavor of sour cherries mixed with smoked wood. Some roasted malts are evident, as is hop bitterness, but there is really a sour-sweet flavor taste driving the beer. It’s rather unexpected to be honest. Although the alcohol is not--very forward. Palate is also unexpected, as the beer is surprisingly watery. In sum: A flavorful smoked stout, but one that may not be to everyone’s liking. Worth a try, however, if you’re a fan of beers like Bell’s Cherry Stout.

Geruch nach Schokolade, dunklen Früchten und Schinken. Geschmack süßlich und rauchig. Das Raucharoma bleibt sehr lange auf der Zunge. Sehr ausgewogen und rund.

Bottle in Seattle. Tan foam, black brown. Sweet smoke aroma, moderate body matches the abv. Robust malt and sweet smoke, quite drinkable for the weight, which is not over the top. Bitter, lactic chocolate. Coating finish. Very nice.

Bottle from World Beer Market (Sake no Taniguchi). Dark roast nose, with smooth chocolate, berries, and licorice; also some phenolic notes with smoked fish and charred wood. Deep dark brown color with translucent edges. Flavors of boozy dark fruit, berries, burnt malt, fish oil, and soy sauce. Medium-heavy body, with a full, creamy feeling, a bit oily even, and lightly warming on the tongue. Very interesting nose and unusual flavors for a smoked beer.

Pours almost black. Very undercarbonated with a very slight tan head. Overwhelming flavour of ashtray (as promised on the label) with notes of burnt toast, liquorice and rubber. Some caramel and roasted malts underneath the ash flavours. Complex and very full tasting. An interesting and individual beer.
