4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: JAN 15, 2013 Pours a thick black oil color with a two finger mocha head that sticks and laces nicely. Aromas are brownie, dark chocolate syrup, coffee grounds and a touch of vanilla and slightly boozy. On the palate it follows the nose precisely with a full chewy mouthfeel and great notes of chocolate and burnt brownie. Nice touch of bittersweet chocolate wraps up the finish nicely.

12 oz bottle into a snifter, purchased at The Proper Pour. Thick black appearance with a small, darker brown head. Aroma of dark roasted malts, bitter chocolate, espresso, molasses, burnt sugar, licorice, anise, earth and light smoke. Similar flavor, thick, dark and malty with nuances of caramel, toffee, wood, fennel and vanilla. Full body. Solid imperial stout overall. Pairing: Phish - Johnny B. Goode -> Jesus Just Left Chicago, from 11-17-1997

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Poured a black color with an average frothy brown head that lasted with excellent leg lacing. Moderate to heavy toasted dark chocolate, soft coffee and alcohol aroma. Heavy dark toasted chocolate malt flavor with a heavy dark sweet and small alcohol bite finish of long duration. Full body with a dry smooth texture and flat carbonation. This is a standout beer.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a dark dark brown with a small beige head that leaves good lacing. Nose is of roasted malt, chocolate, licorice and smoke (might be the bonfire for this one, though). Taste is of chocolate, roasted malt, coffee, licorice and some alcohol. Body is full, carbonation moderate and the alcohol is a bit hot but not 12% hot. Overall a nice big stout, a fine sipper to end your day on.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Head is initially small, frothy, brown, mostly diminishing. Body is opaque black (flashlight tested). Aroma is moderately to heavily malty (dark chocolate / fudge, roasted grain, caramel), with notes of vanilla, blackberry, alcohol. Flavor is heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter. Medium to full body, velvety/creamy/watery texture, lively/soft carbonation, moderately alcoholic.
Figured I’d try this considering how much I liked the Moose Islay Montseny made for Nomada, and happily this is a very nice rendition. It doesn’t get all the way to "exciting", but it’s solid and surprisingly elegant for a 12% Impy stout. Quite sweet but not oppressively so, not harshly alcoholic, and the mouthfeel is quite easy-going and drinkable, absolutely not a goopy-syrupy sort of thing...in fact, I might even prefer a bit more body and a more substantial texture (it’s mostly silky but it is admittedly a bit watery as well). Clean aroma and flavor helps too. As with I Love You With My Stout, this is something I will happily drink again, but it just doesn’t quite have the nuance and depth of 4+ examples.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Pitch black color. Aroma is pretty nice, molasses, brownie batter, coffee, burnt malts.
The body is exactly what we look for in the style... Thick and full with a light creamy texture. Also shows the warming alcohol after the sip. Complex malt flavor so that I’m sure this is comparable to Even More Jesus but it’s been a long damn time since I sampled it. Rich, chewy and decadent, just want I want in my imperial stout.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Dark charcoal black, like used motor oil. Cocoa Nibs. Coffee. Super roasty. Black licorice. Hot, but in a good way, it adds to the flavor. Actually the more of this I drink, the more I think its a tad too much.

4.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
So similar to a bourbon county stout. Extremely smooth either strong notes of bourbon, coffee, chocolate and some smoke. Pours like motor oil with a reddish brown head. Had out of a bottle at home.
