Imperial Stout with Coffee Added On a pilgrimmage for immortal craft beer we tripped on these heavenly coffee beans -- threw them in and created damn good aromas, a thick fudge-like body, pitch black color and obviously only made it in limited amounts. And the taste.... furthermore Jesus!

#1300. Aroma is wonderful, roasted malt, fresh coffee, booze, some chocolate, some smoke. Appearance is black, light brown head, poured relatively thick. Taste is roast, fresh coffee grounds, very robust, chocolate, smoky, real good. Mouthfeel is medium to heavy body, light almost non-existent carbonation, robust malt and coffee aftertaste. Overall, this one is quite tasty.

Black and oily, 375ml bottle. Extremely toasty nose. Almost smells burnt whoa. Fudge but a lot of charcoal, burnt tastes. A little coffee. Ugh. Only redeemer is it’s stout.

Draft at City Beer pours black with a small tan head. The aroma is sweet chocolate, mocha coffee, roasty notes. The flavor is somewhat sweet, but quite tasty. Slick feel, lower carbonation. Very good.

On tap at El Bait Shop, Des Moines. Dark body brown head nice lacing. Fantastic Cocoa aroma. Roasty. A touch of coffee but I wouldn’t call this a coffee stout really as it leans more toward the sweet side than bitter. Rich. Really fantastic imperial stout

Pours jet black, thin espresso brown head. Aroma is huge licorice, espresso, cocoa, roasted malt. Slick gooey sweet espresso jet fuel, woody, licorice, cream. Super smooth, minimal booze bite

Incredibly cohesive, dense, and deep... earthy nuances surround smoke, dark chocolate syrup, molasses and coffee with juicy dark fruit layers emerging mid palate

Pours jet black body, viscous like motor oil. Head is super thin and chocolate colored. Head retention and lacing are below average. Smell is of intense burnt coffee beans, burnt malts, and faint dark chocolate. Alcohol is very present but hops arent. Taste is big on acidic coffee, almost acrid/oily. Hops arent present. Charred oak, burnt espresso, fudge, and alcohol round out the beer. Mouthfeel is medium bodied and oily. Carbonation levels are good. Head died immediately unfortunately. Overall this beer was kind of a mess. Bitterness from coffee was overpowering along with lots of burnt overtones. I enjoyed the malt profile but as a whole, it needs refinement.

Pour is black as pitch, even out of the bottle, but with no head, even when poured with vigor. Big nose with roasty black malts, boozy sticky stout syrup, deep bittersweet dark cocoa, and a little coffee. Body is a bit fudge like but not as boozy as a 12% normally tastes. I mean, it’s thick but it’s not very boozy. Roast and dark bittersweet chocolate dominate the flavor, there’s a little coffee and fudge on the back end.

Bottle. Huge roasted malt aroma with coffee and chocolate notes. Pours inky black with a very thin light brown head with no retention or lacing. Starts with rich roasted malt flavors with a little bit of chocolate sweetness. Finishes smooth with a lot of roast and coffee flavors that linger on the palate. Pretty good, but not a big fan of the coffee.
