TheAlum (5575) - Lisle, Illinois, USA - AUG 6, 2013
12 oz bottle shared by Davinci. Beejay’s own beers shared at his wedding. Cheers! Pours a darker amber orange hue, mellow haze in the body with some nice glow in this sunlight. A frothy offwhite head atop dies to a loose film, small lacing overall. Aromas show distinct cognac, dark fruit, and spirit. Wet wood, vanilla, and grapes. Some anise, gentle yeast. Initial is sweeter, a firm malty body shows dough, a bit of fruit, distinct warmth and cognac glow. Alcohol warmth, wet oak, wood, and grapes. Some spiciness as we hit the middle. Sticky malts meet some anise, gentle Belgian yeast influence grows. Still warm and a bit messy. Backend is fruit, caramel, and warmth. A bit overdone I think, but sitll quite sweet. Finish is hot and spicy, distinct anise and Cognac notes. Not a beer for me. But an honor to try. Thanks.

Bottle at Torst, 03/30/2013. Pours cloudy caramel, darker than the average Belgian ale, but nearly flat, a few bubbles. Nice aroma, candied fruit, white grapes and green apple, fluffy cognac notes, light candi sugar and pale malts, wood. Taste is fruity, light caramel, yeast with pale malts, mild bitterness, a touch of booze, cognac is subtle. Full, soft palate. Nice.
