Served on draft at Westbrook Brewing Company. Pours a dark brown color with a thin dark brown head. Decent head retention. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee, sweet malts and some toastiness. The taste is rich roasted malts, sweet malts, coffee, caramel and a hoppy finish. Medium-full bodied, rich, sweet and chewy. Nice beer.

Had a few sips of Travlr’s. Somehow, he asked me to guess the country and brewer, and I did so between smelling and tasting. Black with a little tan ring of head. Maybe there was more at first, but I came in when Travlr was half done with it. aroma is like dark roast and toast, which works for me. The taste is slightly roast, but also has an element of chocolate syrup, which I’m not sure how I feel about. Tiny bit of vanilla.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle 75 cl. Pours an opaque black with a brown head. Comes a slow gusher. Sweet vanillaish roasty aroma. Solid body, chewy sweet roasty malts and vanilla and a discreet coffee touch. I don’t really pick up any almonds though. No real bitterness just smooth and delicious throughout. 180212

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle, 75cl. A gusher, producing a dense, creamy, dark tan head and a more or less black body. Heavily roasted, coffee and chocolate aroma with some nougat nuttyness and a licorice hint. The flavor is a bit heavy on the roasted and burnt side I think, but it’s still very nice. Licorice and nuts too, but I’l like more hop flavors. Bitterness level ok. Full-bodied and effervescent. Some vanilla towards the end. A really pleasant one, but too heavy on the carbonation, and sort of one tracked. Wouldn’t mind more of it though. 120218
