Editor’s Note: Replaced by Imperial Biscotti Break, which has a separate listing. Previous bottled and distributed batches were 8.4% ABV.

Italy has a certain “je ne sais quoi” – fab food culture, highly decadent history of art and cool countryside. Some might argue the people are loud and flamboyant, they steal our women, and their soccer players melodramatically flop on the pitch. Listen – that’s all part of the secret Italian ingredient – keep it cool, confident, arrogant and extravagant. Forza Italia!

Malt beverage with almonds, vanilla beans and coffee added.

Someone shared this at the RBWG. Black with very little head. Roast malt and alcohol in the nose. The flavor is sweet on a rich palate ending in a dry finish.

750 ml never ending slow gusher poured a clear dark reddish brown with a small lasting brown head. Aromas of bakers cocoa, roasted malt, vanilla, almond and light carmel. Palate was medium bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of dark chocolate, roasted malt, vanilla, light almond and light caemel with a smooth dry lingering dark chocolate finish.

Thanks to Mike, Michael, and Matt for hooking me up with this brew. You guys rock. The beer is dark brown, approaching black, with a nice beige head. The aroma offers nuts (walnuts, almonds?), roast, sweet malt. Hints of chocolate and vanilla. The flavor is nice. A touch of booze in the finish. Well balanced, with bread, biscuits, vanilla, roast, booze. Not nearly on the level as the imperial version. Still, quite good. I would have this again. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 07-07-2012

Dark dark dark pour with a light brown head. Smells heavy on coffee, sweetness, chocolate. Intense flavor! Thick and dark. Very sweet but balanced too. All I can say is intense. Great.

Bottle. Black, big Brown head. The beer attacked us when we opened. Very chocolaty, vanilla and chrismassy spices, nice dark chocolate and coffee. . Mellow sparkly mouthfeel. Great balanced spicy flavours.

Keg at CP&K. It pours jet black with a small tan head. The nose is roasted malt, toast, strong coffee almond and toasted coconut. The taste is pretty damn sweet, sugary coffee, toffee, caramel, wood, vanilla, banana, espresso, roasted malt, nut, toast and cola with a dry, bitter-sweet finish. It definitely comes together as biscotti. Full body, moderate carbonation and sticky mouth-feel. Flavoursome but pretty damn sweet and cloying. I can appreciate why others may really like this; it’s just not for me.

Bottle, shared with Bergen Beer Geek Tasting Crew. After buying this at Ølbutikken, Copenhagen, it feels really good to have Meilby bring it to the table, cheers man! :-) Pours a pitch black body with a huge beige creamy head. Sooo nice. Nose is almonds, biscuits, licorice, leather, coffee and hints of nuts and caramelized...caramel? :-P In any case, this is quite lovely. Taste is coffee, caramel, nuts, hints of buttery biscuits and ashes. Very nice. High carbonation, full body. A highly pleasant Italian-themed beer very far from most Italian crafts.

Bottle pours a jet black color with a large fizzy/fluffy brown head. Scent is vanilla sweet and roasted malts. Taste is vanilla, coffee and sweet malts. Very good but a bit over carbonated.

Super carbonated pour. Makes the mouthfeel a bit airy. Head is uncontrollable. Decent beer.

Bottle 750ml @ ClubGonzo
Pours pitch black with a tan head. Aroma has notes of carmael coffee, biscots, almonds, roasted malt, licorice and leather. Taste is medium to heavy sweet and light to medium bitter with a long caramel and coffee finish. Body is full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.
