Now I donít normally do this, particularly with 10% abv Imperial Stouts, but Iíve got a bottle of Naked Lunch at a Copenhagen Heavenly Resto & Iíve got a bottle of Christmas Eve at a New York City Hotel Room... These beers are obviously different ages, but they were also brewed in two separate locations across the Atlantic from each other. I guess I figured it would be interesting to try them side by side this evening & rate both of them here.

Naked Lunch In a Copenhagen Heavenly Resto
Pours basically black with a great big tan head that leaves nice lacing on the glass. 4

The aroma is more chocolaty than anything, cocoa nibs, fudge, dark chocolate, all that stuff. Itís got a hint of dark fruit and a touch of ashiness. It pulls off being mildly sweet but still very chocolaty. 8

The flavor is very bitter, ashy... very very roasty with a character of 90=% cacao chocolate. Itís got something that Iím not sure if I should call burnt coffee or espresso... maybe something that hangs in the balance therein. There is even a character akin to overcooked popcorn. Itís got a mild sweetness for balance, but this sucker is bitter... overly so but also sort of novelly so... I canít say I donít enjoy it, itís just a lot. 7

The palate is fairly mouth coating, but also a touch bracing from the bitterness, itís a nice affect. 4

Overall I enjoy it for what it is & can understand why it might turn some folks off. 16
Score 3.9

Christmas Eve at a New York City Hotel Room
Pours basically black with a great big tan head that leaves nice lacing on the glass. 4

The aroma has a decent hop character to it that jumps out at me much more than any of the roasty components. Itís got some dark fruit & some mild chocolaty bits. But itís mostly fruit forward hops. 7

The beer is pretty focused on nice dark chocolate bitterness & some nice juicy & fruit forward hoppiness. The bitterness level is moderately high but the way the dark chocolate & the hop flavor work together is something Iíve rarely ever seen work this well in a beer like this. Itís got some over-cooked popcorn a touch of dark fruit and a good bit of espresso character to it. The sweetness is mild but seems awfully welcome for a touch of balance. 8

There is some nice sharpness to the mouthfeel of this beer but it also has a sort of mouth coating thing going on. 4

Very enjoyable Imperial Stout, not sticky... pretty well balanced, stayed hoppy without being some sort of weird Double IPA Stout Thingamajig. 16
Score 3.9

Pretty weird that I gave both beers the exact same score in all arenas. I liked both of them just as much as the other. They were both weird in the right ways & I can certainly see how one is some sort of year fresher version of the other... to some degree, but the Naked Lunch one really seemed to bring the roast in a profound way.... so much so that I donít know that hoppy character of the Christmas Eve one would have really had a chance at covering it up. So even if Naked Lunch started out a much hoppier beer (which Iím sure it did) Iím not so certain that Christmas Eve will taste the same at the same age as the Naked Lunch bottle here. I have bottles of Christmas Eve set back & itíll be interesting to see where it goes over time.
Overall a fun at tasty experiment, sígot a nice boost too.

Barwa: ciemna, nieprzejrzysta z wyraźnym osadem drożdżowym na dnie. Piana beżowa, drobno pęcherzykowa, skąpa i szybko zanikająca. Aromat: czekolada gorzka i mleczna, kakao, alkohol i suszone owoce. Smak: czekolada, kwaskowaość z ciemnych słodůw, przeradzająca się nakońcu w paloną goryczkę. Wyczuwalna także nuta alkoholowa (ogrzewająca przełyk) i lekkie posmaki owocowe.

After Mikkeller Milk Stout this seems intense dark chocolate and roasted malts oriented. More astringent mouthfeel, medium+ body, average bitterness. Yep, dark chocolate flavor is all I remember from this try.
