[7967-20151212] 500mL bottle. Roasted chocolate malts and hints of wood and dark fruits in the aroma. Black body with a medium-lasting foamy brown head and some spotted lacing. Bitter chocolate and grainy roasted potato skins flavour. Full body is rich and hints at a little booze. Delicious and very well balanced. (9/4/9/5/16) 4.3

2013 bottle bought off the shelf in December 2015. Pours a deep, inky black with a persistent tan head. Aroma is definitely a bit oxidized. But still good bits of chocolate and espresso. Taste is chewy bittersweet chocolate and coffee. Lasting sweet mocha taste. Lots of lingering espresso bitterness.

12 oz bottle poured at home. Pours black with a tan head and some lacing. Malty smell with a hint of pepper. Taste is not what I expected. Iím getting a little bit of chocolate doused with a good bit of chili powder. Like Clown Shoes, the chili flavor is off putting.

Bottle pours dark, with quite a bit of carbonation taste was not as I was expecting from what I read. Think I'll have to give it another try as it tasted nothing as the reviews.

Iím not usually a fan of "everyone is doing it", but the label just reeks of "do it now". Itís Christmas Eve. Letís do it. - The pour into the snifter is rich and oily, thick and burnt umber in color. The foam, soft and porous, fades gracefully into the beer leaving a deep, milk chocolate ring skirting the inside of the glass. Wispy islets drift lazily in circles, no barrier to the aroma, flush with chocolate, dark roasted coffee and overripe black plums. Hints of vanilla toy with the chocolate as I bring the glass to my lips. The flavor teems with old leather, smoky ash, milk chocolate and coffee, the beer edgy and bitter; the harshness that could be forceful just isnít. The only real burn or bite is deep in my throat, after the swallow. Completely drinkable, tasty and comfortable, but the body falls apart with any degree of warmth. This has a very full body, but is heavy and oily and although itís flavorful with the buzz of the carbonation, as soon as itís too warm, thereís no real fun in it anymore. The finish is nice, but the end of the bottle, if not enjoyed with some urgency, is disappointing. - Christmas Eve starts out with a bang, buts ends with a fizzle...or no fizzle. Depending on how you look at it.
