UPDATED: DEC 20, 2014 (Bottle). The scent is dry and vaguely fruity with aromas of roasted slightly smoky malt. The taste is both a bit sour and sweet and it has a prominent flavor of heavily roasted malt and some coffee, warming alcohol and hops. The aftertaste has a nicely dry bitterness.

Nose promises more than taste delivers. Still good, chocolate and sweet licorice. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

330mL for a whopping $10. Wife wanted to try it :/ Clear dark brown pour. Weak, hard to coax mocha head. Spotty lace. Wife loved the aroma describing it as flourless chocolate cake, moving to corn tortilla, really losing as it warms a lot of hazelnut dessert. For me, the aroma never pops as nicely. There’s a metallic background with toast and hazelnut but also unwanted lemon. Taste is fairly dense, mild hop bite, a lot of mealy apple and somewhat unpleasant hop bite. Just not coming together for me. Burnt red apple abounds. Really for de molen it is hit or miss.

Tap at Paradiso DuPont. Pours a deep near ink SRM with a scant mocha head leaving little to no lacing. Nose is black cherry compote, rich umami fattiness, flank steak, muted spice medley. Taste up front is heavy and rich with seemingly syrupy sweetness abruptly switching to super dry bitter dark chocolate squares and powdered dark chocolate cocoa spiced with star anise. A really nice subtle combo leaves muted nutmeg and mace in the background. Muted star anise liqourice and dark spice. Very bitter and well attenuated palate. Quite enjoyable. Much better than expected. No adjunct nonsense. Clean feeling with a heavy cocoa aftertaste. Only mild ash and chalk. Well restrained. Palate is really growing on me. So bitter and muted melted dark chocolate character. Not quite a 5/5 for palate but getting pretty close. Very impressive. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Wow -- a one-note Charley, but the note that it gives is roasted coffee, roasted coffee, and more -- wait for it -- roasted coffee. Aroma is roasted coffee. The taste is roasted coffee. Freshly roasted coffee, too. This brew puts other coffee stouts to shame. It's not a lightweight at 10% ABV either. Recommended! A- ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
