Pours almost black with a surprisingly large tan head. Smells intensely of roasted malt and licorice. There’s a bit of char and ash to it as well as some interesting dark fruit notes, giving it sweetness. The flavor is quite heavy on the roasted malts with lots of licorice, molasses, and bitterness. There is a touch of smoke flavor in there, too, maybe some coffee grounds and soap. Medium to full in body with medium carbonation.

Keg at Craft Beer Co. It pours jet black with a thick, dense tan head. The nose is wood, roasted malt, ash, smoke and a touch of chocolate. The taste is roasted malt, smoke, earth, ash, dirt, metal and brown sugar, with a bitter-dry finish. Full body, moderate carbonation and well-hidden alcohol. Not bad.

Tap at brewdog. Pours black with short lasting head. Aroma is mostly dark chocolate. Taste is mostly dominated with dark chocolate, has some smokiness as well. Lacks the depth I would want from a big imperial stout. Good and nothing offensive going on

Bottle at Schouskjelleren Mikrobryggeri. Pours dark, almost black. Aroma of dark chocolate and roasted malt. Slightly bitter and well balanced. Detectable alcohol, but not annoying.

Keg at Brewdog Camden. Dark brown with big golden brown head which soon fades. Aroma is smoke, coffee, bitterness. Taste is full of beans, vanilla and coffee, lots of booze and has a mellow roasty finish. Very prickly in the mouth to start with, then becomes slick and oily. Touch of chocolate towards the end too. Lovely.

On tap at the Craft. Opaque black beer, tidy tan head. Palate is medium bodied with some finely carbonated crispness. Fresh dark malt, a little dry. Rich coffee tone. Minerals. A little lacto sweetness. Subtle dark fruits, fig, plum. Finishes smooth and creamy with a tiny bit of roast. Pretty good!

On tap in a snifter. Pours black with a lacy head. Aroma strong of roasted malts, some chocolate and coffee, and floral hops. Flavor strong on these notes. Thick. A good beer.

11.2 oz bottle. Pours dark brown to black with a small fine beige head. The aroma is deep roasted malts, dark chocolate, anise, char and a touch of black coffee. The flavor is more dark roasted malts, char, chocolate, anise, a splash of vanilla and black coffee. Decent bitterness at the back. At first, it seemed to be a touch thin, but I grew to be ok with the body. No sign of the 10% and fairly dry.
