3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle at Volo. Stout brown with a solid brown head. The aroma is surprisingly mild, and doesn’t give much away. Once tasted, the body jumps out in front of the flavour. It’s full, creamy, smooth - without the enhancement of any apparent alcohol. This beer’s complexity reveals itself as the beer warms. Coffee, tobacco, booze, roast. More and more booze, actually, as it warms. But then it levels out again. Only the fact that the flavours are muddled, rather than distinct, keeps this from being a great beer.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle - deep black with a fizzy dark brown head which falls in on itself, collapsing to a thin ring. Aroma of oak, vanilla, chocolate and whisky. Taste of oak, whisky, coffee, dark chocolate and roasted malts to begin, followed by some earthy, lightly floral notes and a little bourbon in the finish. Mild lingering bitterness. Medium body, medium carbonation, silky and warming.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle, 355ml. A pitch black beer with a medium size brown head. Aroma is of mint, alcohol, dark chocolate and dried fruits. Taste is bitter with a strong alcoholic finish. Aftertaste reminds me of black coffee. Robust and oily. Not very drinkable, but that is what I was expecting from a heavy Imperial Stout. Not the best, but good.

Bottle, 355ml. Opaque dark brown with a frothy brown head. Deep aromas of roasted caramel, dried fruits, chocolate. Robust bodied with moderate carbonation. Smooth and oily. Bittersweet with a rich chocolate malt character and a stinging bitter and alcohol finish. Very pleasant.
