4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Oily black pour with a 3 finger, dense, creamy, oily mocha brown head. Aroma is huge on roasted nuts, chocolate, mild coffee, earthy wood, smoke, roast, char, dark caramel and just a hint of herbal, floral hops. The fist sip starts of with tons of sweet milk chocolate, turning darker as it goes, lots of roasted nuts, dark coffee, dark caramel then the lightly bitter roast, char and burnt sugar kick in followed by earthiness. Finishes with cocoa and some grassy, floral, pine and herbal hop notes. Heavy body with a creamy to chewy entry, light, blanketing and slightly sharp carbonation, nice alcohol warmth without being overly boozy and a still creamy and chewy, but slightly char-dry finish. Really good stuff, probably something I will try again.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
355 ML bottle
Pours dark cola color and settles black, with some hints of ruby. Dark brown colored head, spotty lacing and some ABV legs. Falls to a good collar.
Nose is dark fruits, slight smoke, vanilla, chocolate and roasted grain. Little element of smoke or cigar smoke that makes this a bit odd. Good dark fruit components.
Taste is juicy dark fruits, roasted grain, watery coffee, and tobacco. Kind of in a way a smoked pork. Chewy as in a lot going on up front but overall body wise it is a little watery and kind of Meh. Medium bodied, light carbonation. A lot fo smoke and tobacco in the finish. If this was beefed up a bit more, say to 12% this could be interesting. Wants to work but does not.

Evil twin Brewing’s attempt to create the perfect 10% alcohol beer continue with this offering. It has notes of chocolate, rum, raisin, talcum powder and vanilla in the aroma. The aftertaste is reminiscent of cocoa powder with lots of raisins and alcohol also prominent. The alcohol almost disguises a healthy amount of hops which linger on the tongue as the booze does its work in the throat.

Bottle from Barny’s. Gets good scores, but honestly didn’t see what the fuss was about. Aroma is roast malt, bit of coffee and chocolate and quite a bit of smoke/ashes. Pours black with a creamy tan head which hangs around. Rauch theme continues in taste, but not in a particularly pleasant way - I have come across better attempts at introducing smoke into ISs. Fairly average carbonation and a fairly full body. Overall, a disappointment

Bottle. Pours Black with a thin brown head. Doesn’t leave a ton of lacing in the glass. Has a lot of roasted malt on the nose. Definitely on the drier side with a fair amount of roast on the tongue.Finishes Clean. Hides its booze well. It’s a solid beer but doesn’t strike me as an outstanding one.

Bottle @ home. Opaque pitch black color, medium sized brown head that lasts for a decent while. Aroma is malts, dark malts, chocolate, lightly roasty. Taste malts, dark malts, chocolate, light roast and a nice dark malt bitter. Oily texture, full body, medium quite firm carbonation for a beer like this. Still, quite nice.

12 oz. bottle, consumed on 4-7-16. Dark brown. Small to moderate amount of short-lasting, dark taupe head. Dark amber hue. Nice shade of head. Scents of chocolate, chocolate chip muffin, caramel, and banana bread. Dusty aroma. Char and tar atop a really nice malt base. Herbal, piney, almost spicy taste. Cumin and curry flavors. Even a touch of mint cotton candy, though it’s far from cloyingly sweet. Dry finish. Tarry aftertaste. Full body. Smooth and oily in the palate. Fairly lively. Good across the board, but not great.

With the weird name I was expecting something challenging, but that is not the case here. It is a good, roasty, well-balanced stout. It leans toward a dry, hoppy flavor and is robust but not overwhelming. One of the better smelling IS’s out there - licorice, bourbon, flowers, and vanilla. Very good indeed.
