Sask89 (418) - Regina, Saskatchewan, - FEB 16, 2014
UPDATED: FEB 21, 2014 Pours pitch black with an extremely frothy mocha head (the bottle almost overflowed). Aroma of dark chocolate, black liquorice, slight coffee and a little oak. Taste is not really sweet, it is rich and fairly bitter, which is nice. Full body, lively mouth feel, over carbonated (not surprising). Overall a really awesome beer.

Pure black body sits beneath a slowly fading, creamy smooth, one inch, medium khaki head which eventually falls to a thin ring and a couple dots of lace

A festival of berries, pine needles, and grapefruit rind with dark roast coffee and smokey accents bridging into rich dark complexities of vanilla, treacle, dark caramel, and dark chocolate with a touch of alcohol spice and beef jerky on a heavy, mildly carbonated body offering a burst of spice as the residual opens, melting back to reveal balanced, extended waves of the previously mentioned components, another great imperial stout from Jeppe

Aromas of dark chocolate, coffee, caramel, roasted dark fruits, licorice. Dark with ruby reflexes and no head, only a ring. Some interesting sweetness in taste, mixed with roasty feeling, coffee and nice bitter finish. Medium body - expected a bit more. Oily texture, very soft carbonation.

UPDATED: DEC 23, 2014 Black color with small head. Looking good! Dark fruits, I think it’s like dry apricots rather than raisins or plums. Sweetness, roasted malts, and bitter chocolate. Super liquorice and well-balanced. Better than Port Brewing’s Santa’s Little Helper which I had just before. A very good one.

Bottle at Lincoln Wine Bar. Beatiful dark pour. Rich aroma, deep, smooth flavors of chocolate and roast malt. I’d like another please.

12 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled on 8/19/2014. Pours dense pitch black color with a 1-2 finger dense dark brown head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, molasses, licorice, raisin, toast, dark bread, leather, tobacco, light smoke/char, and roasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roasted malt, dark fruit, and earthy hop notes; with good strength. Taste of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, molasses, licorice, raisin, toast, dark bread, leather, tobacco, light smoke/char, and roasted earthiness. Good amount of roast/char bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, molasses, licorice, raisin, toast, dark bread, leather, tobacco, light smoke/char, and roasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roasted malt, dark fruits, and earthy hop notes; with a nice roasted bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a smooth, moderately creamy/bready, and lightly sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice Russian imperial stout. All around good complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roasted malt, dark fruit, and earthy hop flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the big ABV. A very enjoyable offering.
