UPDATED: OCT 13, 2012 11.2 FL. OZ bottle, courtesy of Drsilverworm. Pours an oily charcoal charred brown into snifter with only a khaki ring visible. Smells of rum, caramelized sugars, cigar smoke, sweet malts, fruits and some yeastiness. Very basic in its aroma. Holy fuck. This beer is amazingly reminiscent of drinking a flat cola, specifically a flat Coke: I get artificial sweetners, liquorice and milk chocolate by swallow. Medium bodied. Mouthfeel is quite carbonated... perhaps too carbonated.

11.2 fl oz bottle to pint glass Dark chocolate, coffee, caramel, and alcohol on the nose. It's a dark opaque brown with a dexent bubbly dark tan head. Bitter and malty throughout. The mouthfeel is smooth and silky with very little carbonation. Alcohol is there but it doesn't taste like a 10% ABV beer.

Tap at the Cask Beer Co, Clerkenwell (Dec ’11). Very dark brown to black in appearnace, finger of head, lacing remained throughout drinking. Smells of chocolate - of the bitter dark variety, and a hint of ’rausch’. Flavours were excellent a complex beer with lots of questions asked of the palate! Liqourice, toffee, roasted malts, bitter chocolate a trace of coffee and smoked/burnt flavours. Mouthfeel, smooth, creamy, pleasant on the throat! A great beer!

330ml bottle pours almost black in color with a huge light beige head that retains very well and leaves some very impressive lacing on the glass. Aroma is predominantly chocolate with some roasted barley and earthy notes. Taste is much more bitter than the aroma suggests, with a bold roasted barley bitterness and a nice balance of chocolate malty sweetness and a little alcohol burn in the finish. Medium to heavy bodied with enough carbonation to create a pleasing sensation on the palate. A very satisfying Imperial Stout and highly recommended.

Aroma- char, oak, slight chocolate, booze, dark fruits Appearance- black with a dark brown head, much more head than I anticipated Taste- big hop bite with lots of char, some sweet chocolate, oak Palate- decent body, slick mouthfeel Overall- Very unimpressed by this. Too hoppy, burnt, and one of the most difficult to pour beers I’ve ever encountered. For whatever reason it wanted to foam up from the first slight pour. Not worth the $11 pricetag.

Bottled at PBF. Pitch black, small head. Aroma of molasses and mild smoke. Sweet with full body and clean, hard, spritzy mouthfeel. Molsses, ash and salt. Mild resiny bitterness. Sharp and not that interesting.

Bottled 330ml (PBF)
Dark opaque black color, small steady brown head. Coffeish, a bit vegetably yeasty typical De Molen-aroma. Medium-bodied. Foamy mouthfeel. Licorice, toasted maltyness, light vegetables (from coffee?). Not very complex but ok. Feels less than 10%.

Bottle. Pours a solid dark brown/black with a thick tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, toffee, chocolate, hard boiled fruit sweets. and chalk. Flavour is the same but with wood, and fairly bitter. Well balanced, lightly bitter finish, nice and roasted.

330ml bottle. Pitch black, with a brown head. Huge, roasted aroma, malt, chocolate, coffee, tar, iodine, smoke, ashes. Off-dry, medium bodied (surprisingly light?), medium bitterness, slightly low CO2. Roasted, spicy taste, malt, chocolate, coffee, licorice, smoke, mocha, hops, vanilla, ashes. Dry, ashy finish.
