Pitch black opaque, big off-whote head. Very active beer. Didn’t gush when opening, but sure came out when pouring into the glass. Smells barley wine, cognac, sweet, some hops, roasty, liquorice. Tastes roasty, dark chocolate.. A great taste but the carbo wrecks it a bit. Going to let this beer rest for a little period before drinking it. The carbo wrecks this beer, great body though!

Bottle. A super-gusher, spraying half the train wagon’s inside, leaving a pleasant odor for the remaining 3.5 hours of the ride. The little beer hitting the glass was more or less black, with a dense, tan head. Coffee, some more coffee, dark chocolate, roasted malts and some licorice in the aroma. The flavor too has lots of coffee, with chocolate, sweetness, licorice and a lightly roasted maltyness. Full-bodied and heavily carbonated. Some warming notes towards the very end. A nice one, pity most of it ended up in the wrong places. 111014

0.33l bottle. This puppy really wanted out! Gushing pretty much all over my kitchen sink, but when I got it over in the glass it looks quite nice; It’s a deep dark brown beer with a big and heavy lacing brown almost fluffy chocolate head. I get a good dash of both roasted malts, coffee and chocolate cake in the aroma. Also a bit of carrot-cake - like in the spices used here. (that could be because I just ate a piece). It’s quite lively carbonated, almost what I would call over carbonated with a somewhat fizzing and oily texture. Flavors are dark and roasted with more chocolate cake, roasted - almost burned coffee and malts and traces of dark dried fruits. It ends with a mild trace of both nutmeg and cinnamon before it’s leaving my mouth warming and boozy with a lingering chocolate taste. Quite nice! Now the younger brother: 21.04.2012

Appearance: Pours out a black body with a huge, tan head bursting forth with very little encouragement.
Smell: The gentlest, most cautious pour produces an explosive head that refuses to settle out, so, sadly, not much of an aroma beyond faint, faint hints of roast, dark fruit, and licorice.
Taste: Roasted malts, suds, black licorice, suds, scorched chocolate ganache, more suds, spice-flavored suds, pruneskins. There’s some bitterness and alcohol, maybe, but it’s lost in a sea of never-ending foam.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Master Level Carbonation.
Overall: A foamy mess.

Bottle. Dark brown colour with a beige head. Aroma is alcohol, spices, milky sour. Flavour is alcohol, milky sour, yeast, caramel, coffee, spices. Nice beer.

Chilled to prevent the beer from gushing too much. Works well, but now the beer is somewhat too cold to really enjoy. When it warms, it still generously frees the aromas though.
Dark brown to black beer, huge tan head. Aroma of coffee, burned malts, red fruits, ash and roasted tones. Flavour malty, coffee, quite some bitterness, burned malts, ash. Loads of CO2. Too much of it actually. Medium long finish, quite balanced, coffee and roasted malts with hops touches. Quite nice, but the heavy carbonation is interfering with flavour and mouthfeel.

(explosive bottle, 33cl, 10.5% abv) Black coloured hue with a huge and rocky brown foamy head. Very spicy yeasty roast-malty aroma with notes of liquorice, mocha and dark chocolate. Mildly sweet and roasty bitter flavour, almost full bodied with a moderate carbonation. Roasty malt-character, initially slightly sugary with notes of chocolate, liquorice and coffee flavours, leading into a dryer mildly roasty bitter finish with hoppy accents. Nice Imp. Stout, despite I have been hit by the crown cap hard. 26.XII.11

Lots and lots of foam from the bottle. Aroma has ash, some peat and roastiness. Flavour is also rather ashy with some roastiness, coffee, licorice and hints of peat. Foamy palate is way too high on CO2. Could be enjoyable with lower carbonation level. It is the most usual flaw on beers brewed at De Molen.
