3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from Bierkompass. Some of the beer came rushing out when I opened the cork, had to use two glasses to save the rest. After 5 minutes the head have sunk to normal. Aroma is heavy roasted malt, liquirice and coffee. Flavor is roasted malt, more liquirice and coffee, also some hoppy notes. Very oily and creamy. A heavy brew, but quite drinkable.

2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
I had to seriously ding this one big time for the half a beer that came spewing forth. I had this one chilled for awhile, poured it slowly as I do when I haven’t been introduced to a beer and its carbonation level before. Got about half an inch into the glass before its ginormous tan head foamed over the glass. About six inches of head on top of this. Not bad I thought, just a bit much. Until I looked over at the bottle and noticed that it was still foaming out. This persisted for about five minutes. Not cool. But it smells good. Very hopy, like a IIPA. Coffee and hops. Tastes hoppy as well. Burnt grain and hops. Mouthfeel is carbonic and acrid. Leaves a carbonic and bitter aftertaste. Not a bad beer, but not a good start. Especially when all that carbonation kicks up the yeast that is supposed to be left behind. Chunky yeast swirling around everywhere. Nice try on this one, but Dookie is better.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Black colored, medium sized beige head. Rich licoricy aroma with roastiness, coffee, berries and thin alcohol. Medium to full bodied. Flavor is even more licoricy with same roastiness, wood and roastiness, some drying cocoa note here as well. Too carbonated palate.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Neljään eri lasiin porukalla kaadettaessa kaikkiin muodostuu aluksi pelkkää beigeä vaahtoa. Lopulta odottamisen jälkeen oluttakin alkaa näkyä. Enpä ole aikaisemmin nähnyt näin hurjasti vaahtoavaa imperial stoutia. Tuoksultaan olut on vaniljainen, mausteinen, hieman kahvinen ja suklainen. Melkoista mentholaniskaneliajoulumaustetta. Maku on kuivan kahvinen, hieman katkera, lakritsinen ja suklainen.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle… Space Coast Craft Beer Festival 2011 … Pours very dark (probably black – poor lighting in the venue keeps it a mystery) with a HUGE, frothy beige head. Upon first glance, I’m thinking “infection,” but am quickly proven wrong by the uber chocolaty, deeply roasted, licorice-laded nose. Medium to full-bodied and quite fizzy. The flavor is a surprise, but of the pleasant variety – black patent, chocolate and caramel malt dance across my palate, but in a dry, lightly sweet, reserved way. Whether planned or not, a brett-like yeast has crisped things up, thinned things out and muted any sharp bitterness or overbearing sweetness that may have been present in the beer when first bottled. Crisp, chocolaty, dry finish with deep, wet kisses of chocolate, espresso, licorice and alcohol heat to remind me that a brewer and bacteria can alter a malt-loaded imperial stout, but neither can completely beat a good one down. Reminds me a lot of a bretted brown ale I tried several months ago at a tasting down in Hollywood, Florida. That was a triumph of a brew… and so is this. Bottle courtesy of Plovmand!

Bottle. Huge head that unfortunately went over the top of both glass and bottle and kept flowing for 3 minutes straight! Color is black. Aroma and taste are rich licorice, coffee, chocolate, roast malt and hops.
