jerd16 (132) - Gloucestershire, ENGLAND - APR 18, 2014
Pours burnt orange with a 2-finger head that vanishes before you can say D-I-S-C-O. Aroma is white grape, sweet malt, liquorice, wood and a touch of pine. Very little hop presence but enticing and enigmatic all the same. Taste is predominantly sweet malt fighting against vinous qualities. A little oaky Dry and slightly sour (maybe some Brett) in the finish. Very little bitterness. Alcohol is inconspicuous. Notable lack of hop-presence knocks down what is a unique brew.

Poured from 330mL bottle. Very active pour. Hazy, golden orange with huge off-white head. Lots of caramel and citrus on the nose, quite malty. Flavour quite malty with a bit of sourness and a dry finish. Some hints of wood and decent amount of grapefruit. Medium body. Good, but the balance is quite there.

Bottle at home, 330 ml, into a snifter, ABV 10.5% Very dark copper orange, quite clear body. Huge off-white head, soapy, with good retention, leaving spots of lacing around the glass. Aroma has lots of vinous notes, light hops struggling to surface beneath all thath wine, old wood, some malts. Taste is also quite malty, again lots of vinous notes, alcohol, some peaches. Medium body, good carbonation, mildly dry palate. Tasty beer but I reckon barrel aging for IPAs does more harm than good.

UPDATED: APR 9, 2014 Cloudy dark orange colour, with thick white head, you can taste the de molen influence on the beer, very complex finish.

Very malty and vineous aroma. Tastes hoppy, mostly aromatic, with a strong malty body. Some sweetness of the aging as well. Decent, bit too malty and too less hoppy.

Keg Half Pint at White Horse European Beer Festival 2012, Parsons Green, London in Aug 2012 - Reddish Amber Brown in colour. Aroma and taste are very vinous, winey, grapey. Very Fruity; grapefruit and orange citrus and tropical fruits. Hoppy; piney resinous and slightly peppery hops. Malty; toasty malts, some toffee. Alcohol quite evident; pronounced taste of dry white wine. Bitter-sweet throughout; fruity and dry. Dry bitter hoppy finish. Unusual but good. Nice vinous IIPA!

Muddy brown. Aroma is quite vinous, a bit woody, and has some alcohol as well. Sweet, bit of bubblegum, then chardonnay, then a lot of candy sweetness, cut only by a bit of alcohol. Interesting, but clearly not for everybody.

Bottle. Pours a clear amber orange beer with a small off white head on top. Aroma is very malty, slightly alcoholic and has some fruity notes as well. Big caramel presence, hops have faded. Flavor is rather sweet and malty again with touches of booze. Juicy hoppy influence and well balanced. Alcohol burn is not noticed. Light cloying mouthfeel, bittersweet aftertaste. Decent DIPA, that’s exactly it.

330ml bottle from Brewdog Edinburgh. £12! Ouch. Hazy amber put, thick white head. Big floral hop nose, some white wine. Bitter taste, wood notes. Clean finish. Good, but pricey.

Appearance: Hazy amber/copper with 2 finger thick ivory head. Aroma: Bread, vinous, acetic marzipan (not vinegar but not marzipan in between......weird), certainly smells like wine. Taste: Medium bitter and sourness with low/medium sweetness. Palate: Thick grainy texture, light/medium texture, average carbonation, lingering vinous, sharp, malty finish. Comments: Very good and lace.
