Strykzone (5158) - Wood River, Illinois, USA - SEP 2, 2011
11.2 oz. bottle from TWCP. A huge light tan head slowly collapses. It sits on an opaque mid brown beer. A bit toffee nose that also has plenty of hops that are floral and pine. The first sip is big complex fruit. Passion, grapes, and citrus are represented. The hops are dry and bitter with bready malt and some wood. The mouth feel is prickly. Alcohol is well hidden. The finish was tart and bitter and still had wonderful complexity. This beer is bold and aggressive. It is also all over the place and offers some surprises.

Bottle @ Home. Pours dark amber / burnt orange with a huge creamy offwhite head. Aroma of bready malt, caramel, fruity hops, peach, grapefruit, grapes. Taste is bready malt, caramel, wood, grapes, both sweet and bitter hops, peach, oranges, grapefruit, vinery notes. Full body, soft carbonation, dry and bitter finish. Different, and very good. 230811

Bottle from Wine & Cheese in Clayton, MO. Pours darkly orange amber with a huge foamy/creamy off-white head. Lots of floral and maybe citrus hop. Full bodied. Foamy carb. Very hoppy over some softly roasted lush caramel. Weird that. Then the hop turns fresh non-citrus non- berry fruity. The whole beer is just a lush experience. Brilliant.

Bottle courtesy of Doodler (thanks Scott) poured a clear amber with a lasting amber head. Aromas of biscuit, earthinous, vinous notes, citrus, oak and light vanilla. Palate was light bodied and crisp. Flavors of biscuit, citrus, light earthiness, light oak and a hint of chardonnay with a crisp lingering bitter finish.

drowland shared a bottle of this with me...thanks! Very pungent baby diaper and cat urine aroma...but in a good way. Dark copper pour with an omnipresent sticky khaki colored head. Flavor has a definite sweetness to it with some mushy kids cereal (think Fruity Pebbles), a hint of the chardonnay that it was aged in. Some citrus bitterness makes its way in the back end. Mouthfeel is nice and sticky.

8/6/11. 11.2oz bottle. Cloudy amber pour with a huge fluffy tan head that sticks forever. Huge piney vinous aroma with a touch of soap, grapes, and wood. Sweet flavor with lime peel, lemon, caramel, sweet wine, and a bit of wood. Interesting and unique.

Huge offwhite head. Clear amber body with strong carbonation. Deep intense tropical fruit, citrus, and resin aroma with floral herbal notes. Very impressive. Dry-sweet earthy mango oranges taste with smoky tobacco notes. Fullish body. Hot mouthfeel. Dry grapes and cinnamon aftertaste with sherry, wood and earth notes. Nice, unusual, and complex. Interesting. (0.33l bottle, Fish & Beer, Copenhagen.)

In short: A big fruity and yeasty Double IPA that is surprisingly easy to drink.
How: Bottle 12oz. Shared with a few friends in a hotel room pre-RBSG 2011 tasting.
The look: Cloudy golden body topped by a medium beige head
In long: Nose is fruity hops and fruity yeast esters. Taste has a bit of dough, lots of sweet malts, lots of ripe fruits, tropical fruits, fruit salad, a truckload of hops. The fruity bitterness is not aggressive. I can feel a bit of alcohol warmth but overall the 10% remains well hidden. I thought this was rather easy to drink for a 10% IIPA. I enjoy Disco Beer more than I enjoy Disco Music and my favorite underground disco band will be Black Eyed Pea when eventually they finally bury the last member.

Dank citrus, mango, resom aromas coming off of this one. Flavor is caramel, peach nectar, mango, earthy resinous hop character with a leaf, light oak, and sweet tangy fruit on the finish. Yum, these guys make some delicious beers.

Uber dank, citrus evergreen, caramel, and fruit cocktail lead to vinous citrus, evergreen, caramel malt, and resin. Perfect palate- thick with medium carbonation.
