From a bottle poured a dark brown color with a lot of head. Strong lasting hoppy flavor with a lingering aftertaste.

Bottle shared at RBSG. Pours dark amber with white head. Nose of white grape, hops and caramel malt. Taste is hops, caramel malt, light green apple and dryish pine. Good full mouth feel.

Aroma is firm and hoppy with a yeasty undertone and a citrus hint. The sample I got fizzed like nobody’s business, so be careful if you have this in a bottle! It pours a hazy dark honey-golden that is barely translucent and has a thick, frothy, rather persistent light golden tan head. Flavor is decently hoppy with a firm touch of evergreen, a subtle citrus undertone that mainly grapefruit plus a little sour orange, and a whisper of sweetness. Finish is hoppy, a little fruity and just slightly bitter. Texture is quite fizzy and lively, leaving a nice tingle. OK, maybe on the overpriced side, but still a more than adequate Imperial IPA.

Bottle:   Caramel, a little dirty and very hazy, huge sudsy sandy head, spotty lacing.   Sweet pine and hops on the nose, slightly sweet citrus peel too.   Faint white grape juice.   Dull hops, heavy, body is moderate, some barrel characters, white wine on the exit.   Interesting beer.   Has a bit of a powdery sweetness.   Hops aren’t biting at all.   Body and mouthfeel are smooth, yet fairly moderate.   The 10% ABV seems well hidden.   A little spritzy on the tongue.   It has this bright mustiness that comes right up front, but goes away quickly.   Interesting take on the style.

11.2 ounce bottle. Served in a snifter, the beer pours a cloudy burnt orange/brown color with about an inch frothy off-white head. Head retention is very good, and there’s a lot of lacing left on the glass. Aroma is mostly pine and citrusy (grapefruit) hops, along with some wood, grapes/Chardonnay and caramel malt. Taste is similar to the aroma, but there’s also some herbal flavors and peppery spice noticable. Also, all the flavors seem to mesh well together, with no one flavor really overpowering the others. There’s both hops and grapes/wine noticable in the finish. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it’s a bit slick and creamy with good carbonation. I think this is an interesting brew, I liked it a lot.

Bottle. Pours a hazy brown body with a massive light beige head. Aroma is sweet mango hops with hints of muscat grapes and kiwi. Taste is more in the realm of earthy hops, black tea and grass. I can’t really say I notice the white wine much, except for some grape-like tones well hidden along with the high ABV. Nice blend, and a rather smooth DIPA all in all.

@CBF. Pours cloydy amber with a creamy beige head leaving lace. Aroma is caramel, fruity, citrus and spicy. Flavor is excellent; sweet, fruity and piny. Good balance. Finishes sweet bitter.

Pours hazy brown with a large tan head. Smells of floral hops, earthy, peppery. Tastes of resin, spicy, sweet citrus, peppery. Wine grapes present themselves as the beer warms.

Coppery color with a huge light tan head. There is certainly a floral hoppy bitterness there, as one would expect from a strong IPA, but it is also fairly light and airy, not doubt a consequence of the Chardonnay. Interesting, not one of my favorite IPAs, though I would try it again. Perhaps a second tasting would allow me to find more character in the beer.

Sample at the Ale Wine & Spirits Evil Twin tasting on 05/19/2011. The beer is a clear amber color with a thin off-white head that diminishes to an outer ring eventually. Stringy lacing. Aroma of citrusy hops and malt. Medium body with a vinous character as well as more citrus and hops, as well as a touch of malt. The finish is hoppy and short. Decent overall, but pales after trying the Yang right before it.
