4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Draft at Torst- lovely black with blood red highlights around the glass- The barrel aspects meld wonderfully with the underlying deliciously smooth stout- strong, sweet- yet not cloying- with the big roasted tones balancing everything out and the port mellowing what is left with some merlot/vineous notes- my only complaint was an unpleasant lacker/medicinal/pheonlic type aromatic at the way end when it was pretty warm- note, torst served it at proper temp, warmer to begin with- but thats it- otherwise, wonderful.

6th March 2014
Jack is back tasting at Bruce’s. Thanks to Rocket Rudkin. Opaque dark brown beer, small tan head. Palate is slightly viscous and a little dry. Rich dark malt with a fair bit of coffee and a touch of treacle. Little malt cream. Really not getting any Port Barrel, just a touch of dark fruits. Strong minerally coffee finish. Gets chewy quickly. It’s not a bad beer but my expectations were not met at all.

A bit rough around the edges.

Bottle shared in London - huge thanks to C-Dog for tracking this ditty down. Pours shiny black with a frothy, beige head. The nose has burnt meat, some dark fruits. Medium sweet flavor, a bit of smoky peat, rich dirt, baking cocoa, burnt grass. Full bodied with fine carbonation; quite chewy. Warming finish with thick, bitter chocolate, smoke, heavy dirt. Lots of bittersweet cocoa. Quite dense. Decent.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 19/20
Aroma is roasty malts, fruits like plum and raison and definitely chocolate. Fruit notes jump out right off bat and give a full mouth flavor with some smooth warm alcohol feeling. The rich malt notes are very sweet prevalent on the tongues tip. The light bitterness compliments the full malt palate nicely. Appearance is jet black with s thin brown head that sticks around longer than expected. An excellent imperial stout.

Bottle shared by Bruce. Aroma is kalamata olive, red wine, and chocolate. Pours thick and black with a deep dark purple-brown head and haze. Taste is Kalamata Olives, campfire, leather, chocolate, and roast coffee. Very weird briny tastes coming from the port but not unwelcome. Cool stuff.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle at the Hoppy Pub - Pours black with a thin beige head leaving some laces on my snifter. Perfect aroma of dark chocolate and coffee, alcohol and oak wood. Bitter coffee, dark fruits and roasted malts on taste and an adorable mouthfeel by the port barrel aging. Full bodied and strong taste that leaves a perfect a bit bitter aftertaste of a really good imperial stout. Even more Jesus was perfect but this one is a really gem...

Taste is a dark fruit and chocolate malty sweetness with a coffee with a grapefruit and herbal hop bitterness. Medium to heavy body with moderate carbonation. A very well done imperial stout that is truly outstanding.

Bottle @tasting, pours black. Great nose, coffee and chocolate you get a very little port whiff right at the end. Taste is the same as the nose, again the port turns up up but it light and right at the end. A bit cake-y and near the end i got some pomegranate as well.
