Few times in the history of craft beer it has happened that a highly praised beer rises beyond mortal stardom into a higher godly league. Usually the recipe to make such heavenly drops is thick fudge-like body, pitch black color, amazingly overwhelming aromas of chocolate, coffee, dark fruits and muscovado sugar, obviously only made in limited amounts and most crucial of all – it must taste rare!

Pours thick black with good tan head. Aromas of coffee with hint of chocolate and sweet malt. Medium carbonation and huge mouth feel - very viscous. Taste is bitter chocolate, cocoa, vanilla and finishes to espresso. Sweet, and fairly bitter. Hides the ABV very well. Comes in a pint so this is going to be a merry affair!

Pours a pitch black with a thick and creamy head of tan foam. Thick body with lots of lacing. Pleasant aroma of dark chocolate and roasted malts. Thick, rich, and creamy texture. Very smooth with a full mouth feel. Lightly sweet dark malt and cocoa taste. Not much coffee taste if any. Nice lingering flavors and a smooth warm finish. Not harsh or bitter at all. Hides the alcohol well. Very enjoyable.

So this looks and smells fantastic. Flavor is thick, chocolaty and delicious. And the $3.99 price for a can is quite inviting. The only thing keeping this from having a much higher score is the fact that I got a quite significant aluminum flavor from the can poking through. Really strange for a 12% beer. Weird. Definitely would have again from a bottle though.

Can. A- Coffee, chocolate, alcohol, roasty, tobacco, fruity, burnt sugars. A- Black color, black liquid, brown head. T- Booze, cocoa, roasty. P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, boozy finish. O- At first pop of the top, it bursts with strong coffee. However that faded fast. The aroma was pretty complex but the taste was overwhelmingly boozy. A little bit too boozy in fact. It was a solid stout but too strong for me to completely love. I love Jesus but this was too much Jesus. Doesn’t live up to the hype.
