COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Few times in the history of craft beer it has happened that a highly praised beer rises beyond mortal stardom into a higher godly league. Usually the recipe to make such heavenly drops is thick fudge-like body, pitch black color, amazingly overwhelming aromas of chocolate, coffee, dark fruits and muscovado sugar, obviously only made in limited amounts and most crucial of all – it must taste rare!

Bottled 33cl. Pitch black with a small deep beige head. Interesting reminiscence of banana split in the nose. Caramel, coffee and dark chocolate throughout. Full bodied. The alcohol is nicely hidden. Lovely but far from being great to my tastes.

Sample at Aces & Ales Tenaya. Inky black color with a medium tan head that diminishes gradually. Patchy lacing on the glass. Aroma of coffee, malt and dark fruit. Full-bodied with flavors of caramel malt, roasted coffee and figs. The finish is roasty with a chocolate malt and vanilla aftertaste. Solid all around.

Found this one hiding in the cellar. Very pleasantly surprised at how rich this is. Chocolate vanilla and dark fruits. Good sweetness. Aroma is like a melted cherry chocolate bar. Flavor has a bit of cocoa and a milky texture. Finish is like melted chocolate ice cream. Smooth and bittersweet. Delicious.

Pours an inky black with a dark brown head, nearly as thick as oil. Aromas of chocolate, coffee, currants and roasted make. Thick mouthfeel with coffee, chocolate, dark fruits and a sugary aftertaste with just a touch of alcohol. Almost tastes like its been barrel aged. Excellent beer.

On tap. It feels a little blasphemous ordering this, but I’m sure that won’t come back to bite me in the ass. A: Solid black with a cappuccino head. Leggy. N: Huge chocolate, espresso and molasses. Oh, there’s the soy sauce. Everyone say "Hi, major character flaw which people inexplicably like". Roast and char. T: Restrained sweetness and bitterness. They’re there, they’re big, but they aren’t overwhelming. M: Oily and heavy. A fine treacly mouthfeel. O: After awhile, all I can taste is soy sauce. C’mon people. I want to like your IRS, but if you are going to dump Kikkoman’s in there, we are never going to get along.

This beer pours thick and black, like oil. It has the aroma of a Tootsie Roll tree. There are major notes of chocolate and coffee in the taste, with an aftertaste of dark coffee grounds. This beer, much like the real Jesus, does not make things easy. It is good, but a hard beer to get through. There is a sweet, syrupy taste and feel. There are notes of dark fruit and something I find I have marked as "sorghum? chicory?" If nothing else, that particular note tastes like those words sound. I first tried it with a pecan pie and vanilla ice cream. You’d think that would be too much of the same tastes, but I quite enjoyed it that way (it has to be a very good pecan pie, though--not the kind served at Waffle House). This beer may be further enjoyed on certain submarines, especially those that never go below water.

Pitch black with no head to speak of. Chocolate aroma, toast, and raisins. Creamy and heavy on the palate. Chocolate, bacon, and blackened wood flavors are delicious with a fruit finish. Yum!

Tap pour - pure black body with a robust deep brown head - looks enticing and rich. Aroma is heavily roasted on the cusp of burnt with lots of chocolate, malt and coffee - some hidden dark fruit, but the chocolate shines. Flavor is top notch - bakers chocolate, some dark fruit, coffee notes, hint of tobacco, and heavily roasted throughout. Thick, creamy palate, this beer drinks well for its potency and was a treat to have on tap. Yum!
