Few times in the history of craft beer it has happened that a highly praised beer rises beyond mortal stardom into a higher godly league. Usually the recipe to make such heavenly drops is thick fudge-like body, pitch black color, amazingly overwhelming aromas of chocolate, coffee, dark fruits and muscovado sugar, obviously only made in limited amounts and most crucial of all – it must taste rare!

What a beer. Had a bottle at Hudson street tap house in Bmore. Pour is dark like black with a medium tan to dark tan head. Aroma is robust and fantastic dark chocolate, coffee and rich sugary dessert. A big beer that stays on your palate forever. Every thing you smell you taste what a treat.

Tap at Backcountry. Pours very dark brown with light brown head, settles quickly with minimal to no lacing. Aroma is toasted and roasted malt, chocolate, mildly sweet and fruity booziness. Flavor is toffee, caramel, fairly sweet up front, fading quickly to a roasted, toasted malt, and mildly smoky finish. Finish is mildly fruity, banana as it warms. Not as much going on as Bible Belt Jesus or Prairie Bomb, a fairly standard imperial stout. Lowest in alcohol of the three, yet manages to be booziest. Alcohol seems a bit higher than the flavor and body can support. Soft carbonation, medium body, fairly smooth texture.

Tap @ Little Delirium Cafe, Yoyogi. Pours pitch black with a nice frothy head. Flows slowly in my glass. This is not really a beer, or at least it doesn’t feel like a beer. It feels like some sort of liquor, with very strong notes of liquorice, molasses, sweet caramel candy, dark dried fruits, plums and cherries. Chocolate and coffee. Warming alcohol. Much more than I expected.

Bottle. Pours black with chocolatey brown head. Aroma is chocolate, bitter and coffe. Taste is more of the same, quite bitter, really solid chocolate. Somewhat boozy.

Pour is motor oil, finger of tan head. Nose is very milky, roast, smoke?, some coffee and milk chocolate. Taste starts off very milky, roasty, milk chocolate, with dark fruits, a touch of coffee, char, and finishes rich dark chocolate. Sweet but not overly, very creamy thick mouthfeel, don't taste the booze. This is outstanding. I don't like being overwhelmed with coffee in my stouts, and this one finds a superb balance. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

An incredibly rich, incredibly powerful beer. Lots of coffee with a healthy amount of dark fruit to give it a nice complexity. Tried at Ted’s taphouse in 2014.

Poured as taster at local shop. Pours a rich dark color with brown head. This is thick and rich. Smells of fresh ground coffee (dark beans), toffee, caramel and chocolate. Taste is smooth, and while coffee is there, it’s not overpowering and doesn’t taste like 3 day old coffee. It is thick and rich on the palate and nicely blends flavors. It was so good and well-balanced that the wife liked it and she usually hates coffee and hence most stouts. Will re-rate when I drink a full bottle from cellar.
