Few times in the history of craft beer it has happened that a highly praised beer rises beyond mortal stardom into a higher godly league. Usually the recipe to make such heavenly drops is thick fudge-like body, pitch black color, amazingly overwhelming aromas of chocolate, coffee, dark fruits and muscovado sugar, obviously only made in limited amounts and most crucial of all – it must taste rare!

THOUGHTS: Could smell this one the second the first hiss escaped from the bottle as I began to pry the cap off. Hid alcohol very well for the high ABV. It was noticeable but not at all harsh. Very intense but rather smooth. Even better tasting as it warmed. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured an opaque black with a small, light brown head that was almost reddish and nearly fully diminished. The aroma had heavy roasted malts, coffee, chocolate syrup and very dark chocolate; hints of banana; raisin; prune; cherry;port; hints of smoke and wood; light alcohol; and dark fruits. The initial flavor was moderate to heavily sweet, and slightly bitter and acidic; while the finish was heavily sweet, moderately bitter and ever so slightly sour. There was chocolate syrup, dark chocolate, dark fruit, hints of bacon, alcohol, prune, raisin, roasted malt, coffee, cherry dark fruit, and burnt malt. The full body was oily and sticky on the lips with soft yet rather tingly carbonation and a slightly alcoholic finish.

Extra, extra dark brown with a small, dark tan head. Aroma makes this seem to be bourbon or wine barrel aged, but the label says this is "regular" Jesus. A decent bit of booze in the aroma also. Taste is dried fruit-sweet, some tropical fruit tartness, a bit of dark chocolate and that seemingly barrel aged character even though it’s supposedly not barrel aged. An excellent stout with a unique taste.

APPEARANCE - black like tar with amazing very dark tan head with fine bubbles. NOSE - kind of alcoholy scent. Sweet like molassas and robust at the same time. FLAVOR - starts out boozy. After some dedicated swirling the booziness gives way to molasses like sweetness. NOTES - tremendous beer. Lives up to its reputation.

Bottle pour opaque black with moderate tan head, thick and oily. Nose seems a little off. Definitely some sweet smells, molasses and chocolate, but then some weird stewed vegetables or old paint smell. Taste early sweet flavors, molasses, raisin, prune, chocolate. Mid palate some burnt caramel and mild bitter chocolate. Very late I get the alcohol. The flavors almost seem to be getting to his the alcohol rather than meld with it. Excellent mouth feel. I love most of the evil twin big beers, but this one just seems a little off.

Pours dark with two-layered head -- a foamy dark brown bottom layer with a creamy light brown layer on top -- that merge after a couple of seconds. Very appealing. And so is the aroma of roasted malt and caramel. Flavor is equally good and rich: roasted malt, sweet chocolate, hints of coffee. The only quibble I have is that the alcohol is a bit too assertive. Otherwise, very nice.

A little more oak than I would normally like but not too bad. I wouldn’t probably look for more.

First time I had this was from tap at Copenhagen Beer Celebration 2012. Maybe the best or one of the best beers of that festival. 330ml bottle at home. Black color with brown head. Roasted malty aroma, caramel, chocolate, coffee, light dark fruits, alcohol - whiskey. Sweet and bitter taste like aroma. Medium to full oily to creamy body with soft carbonation.

Bottle. Pours pitch black with a creamy brown head. Aroma of chocolate, dark fruit, coffee and smoke. Flavor was rich and silky smooth with dark chocolate, coffee, roasted malts, dark friut, molasses, vanilla, and caramel. Creamy oily texture, full body, fine carbonation, World class imp stout.
