COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Few times in the history of craft beer it has happened that a highly praised beer rises beyond mortal stardom into a higher godly league. Usually the recipe to make such heavenly drops is thick fudge-like body, pitch black color, amazingly overwhelming aromas of chocolate, coffee, dark fruits and muscovado sugar, obviously only made in limited amounts and most crucial of all – it must taste rare!

THOUGHTS: Could smell this one the second the first hiss escaped from the bottle as I began to pry the cap off. Hid alcohol very well for the high ABV. It was noticeable but not at all harsh. Very intense but rather smooth. Even better tasting as it warmed. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured an opaque black with a small, light brown head that was almost reddish and nearly fully diminished. The aroma had heavy roasted malts, coffee, chocolate syrup and very dark chocolate; hints of banana; raisin; prune; cherry;port; hints of smoke and wood; light alcohol; and dark fruits. The initial flavor was moderate to heavily sweet, and slightly bitter and acidic; while the finish was heavily sweet, moderately bitter and ever so slightly sour. There was chocolate syrup, dark chocolate, dark fruit, hints of bacon, alcohol, prune, raisin, roasted malt, coffee, cherry dark fruit, and burnt malt. The full body was oily and sticky on the lips with soft yet rather tingly carbonation and a slightly alcoholic finish.

bottle, from the former pivni rozmanitost in prague. jet black with a faint sliver of a brown head; aroma of liquid chocolate, caramel, stewed plum, a hint of truckstop pepper; modest alcohol presence showing; thick texture; some caramel and chocolate with a good whack of burnt toast bitterness. very enjoyable

Black with dark brown, chocolate shake, head, with fine, wet lacing / Rich nose of dark fruit, chocolate, molasses, tobacco, caramel, coffee / Full body, smooth, creamy with some chew, sweet but with excellent balance and bitter finish, light & appealing boozy winey-ness / Flavors of roast coffee, molasses, bittersweet chocolate, caramel, date, prune, cream, cigar box / If you like these big, rich, intense stouts, this is probably a perfect example.

I chose this beer to have at the party following my fourth child’s baptism, so that after a long service my family, rector, and I could have Even More Jesus in our lives. Good choice. Classic Imperial Stout, the kind I would have been crazy for in the earlier days of microbrews (DFH WWS, etc.) Even if it is less unique and less an accomplishment, it is still marvelously put together at all levels, producing a nose, initial impression and finish that are all very alluring. Nicely done. Bottle.

Pours black as Satan's heart with a huge, creamy, brown head that slowly reduces to a thin film. Nice lacing. Nose is rich chocolate, coffee, malt, and yeast with notes of boozy raisin. Taste is quite bitter, but the massive malt bill comes through nicely. Full body; moderate carbonation. Very tasty! A burly brew. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle shared with a friend. I’m not lying when I say this: We played beer pong with this beer at a Halloween party. Yes, that’s right. The beer pours a black with a toffee colored head. Aroma of coffee, dark chocolate, and roasted malts. Taste of milk chocolate, coffee, and dark roasted malts. Very delicious. I don’t recommend playing beer pong with it.

33cl bottle @ home. Pours black with a mocha brown head that quickly fades. Aroma is vanilla, roasted malt, alcohol, coffee, dark fruits and chocolate. Flavour is medium sweet and a little boozy. Body is full, texture is creamy, carbonation is soft. Finish is long roasted malt, vanilla and alcohol. Alcohol could be hidden a little better, but this is still superb.

On tap @ 10 East - Pitch black, rich creamy head that likes to stick around awhile. Roasted malts, dark chocolate, mocha-ish aroma...also a welcomed rich roasted almond/nut like effect smelled. Thick, viscous body. Flavor was a little disappointing. A little more sweetness would have made this decadent, but it leans to the dry side. Bittersweet, dry chocolate, lots of black coffee and noticeable heat from the alcohol. Very good.

Bottle from De Hopduvel, Gent. Dark brown, black colour, dark brown foam. Soft carbonation. Roasted malts, coffee, dark chocolate, also fruit (plum, cherry) and vinous notes. Very well balanced. Very good stout!
