Few times in the history of craft beer it has happened that a highly praised beer rises beyond mortal stardom into a higher godly league. Usually the recipe to make such heavenly drops is thick fudge-like body, pitch black color, amazingly overwhelming aromas of chocolate, coffee, dark fruits and muscovado sugar, obviously only made in limited amounts and most crucial of all – it must taste rare!

THOUGHTS: Could smell this one the second the first hiss escaped from the bottle as I began to pry the cap off. Hid alcohol very well for the high ABV. It was noticeable but not at all harsh. Very intense but rather smooth. Even better tasting as it warmed. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured an opaque black with a small, light brown head that was almost reddish and nearly fully diminished. The aroma had heavy roasted malts, coffee, chocolate syrup and very dark chocolate; hints of banana; raisin; prune; cherry;port; hints of smoke and wood; light alcohol; and dark fruits. The initial flavor was moderate to heavily sweet, and slightly bitter and acidic; while the finish was heavily sweet, moderately bitter and ever so slightly sour. There was chocolate syrup, dark chocolate, dark fruit, hints of bacon, alcohol, prune, raisin, roasted malt, coffee, cherry dark fruit, and burnt malt. The full body was oily and sticky on the lips with soft yet rather tingly carbonation and a slightly alcoholic finish.

tap - Pours black with minimal head. The aroma is of dark roast malt, chocolate, alcohol, and soy sauce. It has a big roast malt flavor with chocolate, licorice, and alcohol. There’s a viscous, very full body. Tasty.

Bomber. Sweet chocolate malt aroma with notes of coffee, dark fruit and roasted malt. Pours inky black with a thin mocha brown head with poor retention or lacing. Starts with chocolate malt flavors with sweet dark fruit flavors to go with a rich, full body. Finishes smooth with roasted malt and and coffee flavors. Another excellent imperial stout from evil twin.

Pitch black and opaque with a two finger, frothy mocha colored head. Really dark head head on this beer which itself is darker than some stouts. Almost as dark as the head on Dark Lord. Excellent retention, only slowly fading into a lasting cap/collar. Glass is left coated with sludgy legs and soapy lacing. Perfection. Slightly smokey, roasted malt aroma with silky chocolate malt and fudge-y cake like sweetness underneath. Slightly boozy with hints of smoke, ash, burnt sugar, toast, oatmeal and espresso bean. Luscious, viscous mouthfeel that makes it taste/feel like a boozy, roasted chocolate beer milkshake. Slightly hop forward with resinous pine needle flavor but the malts are the star with a nice balance of dry roast and silky sweetness. Dry burnt sugars, toast, smoked malt, oatmeal and coffee followed by fudge, silky chocolate, caramel and hazelnut. The high ABV is very well masked making this beer somewhat dangerous. Perfectly balanced with piney hops and boozy sweetness countering the complex malt bill. A truly impressive take on the style.

I had this at Global Brew. Pours black with a brown head. Taste chocolate, dark fruit, a little boozy. I thought this was good. I could sip on this again. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

750 ml bottle poured into a snifter at room temperature after spending a couple hours on a cold marble windowsill adjacent to the glass on a 50 degree day. Appearance: Pours as your standard lightless void of nothing, as with most stouts. Forms just over a finger of fizzy, short-lived hickory brown head, which is a brown cap in short order. Almost no lacing occurs in my snifter. Smell: Chocolatey first and foremost, all baker’s dark and mocha. Burned molasses and blackened grain are also present, and a boozy sort of smell like a Bulleit rye. Taste: Again, chocolate hits right up front, both 80%+ dark and mocha, and it stays present through the entire tasting experience. Alongside it comes some blackstrap molasses, plum, and black cherry, with notes of a lightly-roasted coffee floating in the background. Far off in the distance, there are vague hints of dark soil, of the organic-rich "chocolate cake" topsoil variety, and just a touch of an oaky boozy flavor. Here and there, shadows of an orangey citrus and several types of freshly ground pepper flicker by. The finish is sweet molasses, dark chocolate, and light morning-blend coffee. The ABV is expertly hidden. Mouthfeel: Like drinking congealed oil, but much more appealing than that deScription makes it sound. Smooth, full, and sticky, with just enough carbonation to be present without intruding. Overall: This is a tasty stout. I don’t know that the price tag is entirely justified, as I’ve had cheaper stouts operating in the same league, but I have no real complaints about how this one is put together. It vaguely reminds me of a less-earthy Ten FIDY.

Rated on 10-30-2015 at 800 Degrees Three Fires (Fort Wayne, IN) This on tap beer was served with a very small light brown head that is fully lasting, opaque dark brown body and spotty amounts of lacing. The aroma is roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, and dark fruits. This beer’s flavor mimics the aroma. The mouthfeel is moderate carbonation and this beer is medium bodied. This is a very good sipping beer indeed! It is very enjoyable to drink and rate. The flavors come together very nicely and make this beer worth trying and a beer I would partake in again.
