Few times in the history of craft beer it has happened that a highly praised beer rises beyond mortal stardom into a higher godly league. Usually the recipe to make such heavenly drops is thick fudge-like body, pitch black color, amazingly overwhelming aromas of chocolate, coffee, dark fruits and muscovado sugar, obviously only made in limited amounts and most crucial of all – it must taste rare!

Served from a 12 oz bottle from Bottlecraft. The appearance is a oily ruby black with a perfect deep brown head. The nose oozes with hot gooey fudge chocolate browns with caramel, smoked sausauge, milk chocolate, and whoppers. The flavors enter with a lot of smoked meats but the sweet rich chocolate truffles with confection sugar and brown sugar sprinkled in there. Also some peanut butter hints. There is also some dark dried fruits and more smoked meat in the finish. The mouth is full bodied with a moderate creaminess. A long sticky finish. Great beer for sure!

Poured into a snifter, the appearance was a dark brown close to black color with a nice thin white to off white almost tan finger’s worth of head. Dissipates at a nice pace. Lacing is spotty and thin. The aroma starts off with thick sweet and roasty chocolate fudge portions blending beautifully with roasted coffee beans. Sly vanilla. A touch of marshmallow. Dried sugars. The flavor takes all of the previously mentioned aromas to blend. Sweet blended touch of the sugars to the fudge to the cocoa in the aftertaste and finish. On the palate, this one sat about a medium in body. Feels exceptionally smooth with barely any carbonation, but though lacking, still comes across extremely nice. Overall, really nice Imperial stout that I would have again.

Can from the Good Spirits Co Wine & Beer. Pours a dense black with a deep tan. Nose: some treacly spice, some.heavy malt. Palate is creamy, tarry, heavy, sweet milky treacle-malt. Lovely.

Tap. Pitch black, no head. Coffee, dark chocolate and dried plums in aroma. Taste is really sweet, a bit too much for a ris in my opinion. Overall nice beer, but too little roastiness and chocolate notes.

Tap at @ Basement Beer Bar, Aalborg. Aroma of roasted, burnt and nutty malt, dark chocolate, coffee and light boozy. Black with tan head, mostly dim. Taste is moderate sweet and moderate malt bitter, alcohol sweetness. Full body, creamy thick feel and caramel malt bitter finish.

Black beer with a thick, brown head. Chocolatey malt aroma with the muscovado sugar quality mentioned in the description. Tastes of rich milk chocolate, a mix of fruit, molasses, a light tanginess both in the initial flavour and the aftertaste and just a hint of fizz to cut through what is otherwise an incredibly rich, full-bodied stout. It’s about as close as you could expect a beer to come to having a mouthful of cake and it’s absolutely superb.
