Did you also at some point in your life get seduced by promising words like ’probably the best in the world’, ’it works every time’ etc.? This American Barley Wine Ale says it how it is. It’s intense, attention seekingly hoppy, and definitely your kind of beer. A beer with a big ego, drive and a huge thirst for recognition.

Hazy ruby pour - very hoppy nose - juicy grapefruit, pine, sherry/light oxidation, toffee - flavors of toffee, cherry, sherry, strong citric and woody hops - mostly american in character, but a bit of treacle, mineral, and earth that is a bit british in character - warming finish, but not too hot - pretty good.

12 ounce bottle from World Wine. Woody hop chocolate and a little gluey aroma. Caramel and ripe fruit and a little chocolate with assertive piney resiney hops just bordering on astringency. Medium full body. Fairly high carbo. Good.

Pours a deep amber with one finger of off white head. Aroma is lots of citrus hops. Flavor is more hops and candy like malt with a firm bitterness. Finishes nice and dry. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Nice fine foamy head. Relatively clear body the color of a dark orange sunset. Aroma of oranges. Hoppy, but not resiny which is nice. Bitterness lingers on palate. Mouthfeel is just right. Slight warming after the fact. Reminds me of a cross between Bigfoot and Arogant Bastard. Wish it wasn?t so darn expensive.

[5223-20130412] 1pt6floz bottle. Grainy toasted fruity malt aroma has a bit of an oven-fresh melted steel note. Hazy, dark amber brown body with a medium-lasting creamy off-white head. Boozy resin fruity malt flavour has a long sweet malt aftertaste. Medium-full body. Great balance, one of the best barley wines I’ve tried but it’s not my favourite style. (7/3+/8/3/14) 3.5

Really tasty. Smells like citra hops to me. Sweet vanilla-y flavor that fades into a gentle bitterness. I’m really digging this. More like a big IPA than a barleywine but that doesn’t bother me

New 12oz packaging. Bottled 1/20/14. Served 60 degree and let come up in temp. Duvel tulip glass. Amber pour with a red hue and thin, creamy, off white head. Elegant aromas of floral hops, rose petals, orange citrus and vanilla beans. A very soft, seductive, creamy mouthfeel, that easily hides this beers massive size and lures you to drink more. Huge amounts of bitter orange citrus and florals dominate the mid-palate, gaining strength on the finish, echoing lingering flavors of bitter orange citrus, florals and brûléed sugar on the finish. Everything seems very balanced for a 10% Barley wine.. Be careful! Very easy to drink for 10%. I assume some age will help mellow and integrate the hops, though it's still very, very enjoyable now, especially for being only 1 month old. Hop heads that also enjoy a strong ale will appreciate this American-Style Barley Wine. Great lingering flavors when served at room temp. Good stuff. If you like DIPA's, though are craving a bit stronger, slow sipper.. This is a must try. --- tasted while on a long journey to understand the world around me...

The Sampler, Brooklyn tap: Pours murky brown with a beige head. Aroma is loads of malts, a hint of booze, subdued hops, sugar, toffee, and caramel. Yes, I see that the last three items are permutations on sugar. Taste is rather bitter and makes this beer go down very slow. Plenty of toffee and caramel. I could see how some people could see fruitiness here, even though I did not. Pretty heavy body. Good, but I am not hankering to have this again.

Pours a dark, ruddy, muddy brown with a 1 finger, soapy tan head that has great retention and leaves some interesting lacing. It’s a very thin layer, but the bubbles are so small it almost looks painted on. Aroma is full of caramel, dark fruit, brandy and rum booziness and toffee, also some nice cracker toastiness, hay, pine, herbal, earthy and citrus hop notes. Flavor starts off with dark fruit, caramel, roasted nuts and big toasted bread notes, after that some toffee, more rum and brandy booze, sweet cherries, a touch of cocoa, some nice, toasty, woody notes, a hint of smoky char and citrus, earthy and pine hops in pretty equal measure. Medium to heavy body with a creamy, chewy entry, medium strength and somewhat sharp carbonation and still chewy, slightly dry finish. really good stuff. I could see this having beer having a long and interesting shelf life, but @ $13/bomber, I probably wont’ but another as it really isn’t any better than many, much cheaper Barley Wines.

Pours a very murky, deep reddish brown color. Big malt flavor, sweet, lots of caramel, almost a chocolate note. Very thick. Flavor is a malt bomb. More caramel flavor and a hint of toffee character.
