Tap at brewdog. Dark muddy brown with off white head, the head leaves verynnice lacing. Massively resinous aroma, caramel, toffee, licorice and hints of alcohol. Taste is more of the same, resinous and toffee. Thick and sweet with a bitter finish. Very nice.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle, shared with my father-in-law, who mercifully didn’t care for this beer, so I got to have the whole thing to myself. Dark orange amber, hazy, with a thick frothy milkshake-like head. Luscious floral perfumey hops elevate thick chewy burnt-sugary malts. Moderately bitter finish. The florals here are just crazy! I’ve been thinking of changing my favourite style to barley wines (American style barley wines to be precise), and this beer is the perfect example why. Loved it!

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Draft at Jerry’s. Hazy caramel with good, creamy tan head / Bright nose of fresh caramel, cut pine, and citrus / Full body, sweet and chewy, malty but with biting hops, and big, lightly hot, bitter finish / Flavors of caramel, grapefruit, pineapple, cut pine, and candied sugar / A solid barleywine, no flaws, approaching a double ipa.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle shared with (and courtasy of) The Bergen tasting crew, and Gunnar. Has a hazy dark brown colour with a medium beige head. Lots of hops in a fruity aroma with the addition of dried fruit, pine and rye. A lot of malt in the flavour and more powerful hops as well, almost herbal with grass and pine. The mouthfeel is soft and slick, and has a medium bitterness. A very nice ale! I also understand that there’s a huge difference between an English barley wine and an American one. This is closer to a DIPA.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Poured hazy orange brown in color with an average off-white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate to heavy dark fruit, floral hop aroma. Moderate to heavy smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy dark fruit bittersweet flavor to medium to heavy bittersweet finish of moderate to long duration. My expectations where exceeded with a complex beer.

Draft at Monks. Medium dark brown caramel pour with a foamy ten head. Lots of lace. Bitter hops. Vanilla caramel. Grapefruit pith. Burning black pepper. Dates. Raisins. Strong alcohol. Bitter easily overpowers the sweet. A big caramel hop bomb. Needs to warm up. Need to sip.
