3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Tasted this at Brewdog, Glasgow in August 2012. Keg dispense. Dull opaque mahogany in colour with a thin but creamy buff head. Strong sweet aroma of black treacle, long in intensity. Thick double cream mouthfeel, smooth in the swallow and good lacing throughout. Huge dark malt complex gives a rich maltloaf base with sweet notes of treacle toffee, juicy syrupy dates, raisins, toasted pecan nuts, maple syrup and vanilla fudge. There is a earthy prickle of dusty hop resins in the short aftertaste but this swirls through quickly. Finish is sweet and warming with a velvety malt bollus concealing the Southern Comfort like alcohol note well. A pleasant American style Barley Wine and highly recommended.

3.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
2012.08.07 - on tap at Always Ron's. Pours a ruby copper with thin white head. Aroma very nondescript to my nose. Taste is fleeting, off the taste buds as fast as it was on. Mouthfeel very smooth, almost "flat", little carbonation. For a barley wine, this is very smooth and hides the alcohol well.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draught at The Stumbling Monk in Seattle. Brown, not cloudy. I don’t recall the head, but the aroma featured a nice balance between hops and malt as well. The led into a medium-heavy syrupy palate with silky carbonation. The sharp bitterness in the flavor is the most distinctive feature. It’s like going to the cheese shop and getting that super-old wheel of cheddar- you know what you’re in for and you still want it! Outside of this, the hop flavor is resinous and piney, caramel malt is also prevalent. A very nice desert beer.
