Did you also at some point in your life get seduced by promising words like ’probably the best in the world’, ’it works every time’ etc.? This American Barley Wine Ale says it how it is. It’s intense, attention seekingly hoppy, and definitely your kind of beer. A beer with a big ego, drive and a huge thirst for recognition.

Bottle shared with (and courtasy of) The Bergen tasting crew, and Gunnar. Has a hazy dark brown colour with a medium beige head. Lots of hops in a fruity aroma with the addition of dried fruit, pine and rye. A lot of malt in the flavour and more powerful hops as well, almost herbal with grass and pine. The mouthfeel is soft and slick, and has a medium bitterness. A very nice ale! I also understand that there’s a huge difference between an English barley wine and an American one. This is closer to a DIPA.

Warka 5.12.2014r.

33cl bottle at home from de Bierkoning, Amsterdam. Body is clear to opalescent ruby, head is small off-white, mostly diminishing, fair lacing. Nose is floral, flavor is molasses, caramel, honey, light roasted malt, herbs, tropical fruits, tons of hops. Medium to heavy sweet, medium bitter. Finish is long lasting fruity heavy hoppy bitter, medium alcohol. Full body, oily texture, average carbonation. Excellent dessert beer, very tasty, strong flavor, great one.

Bottle at home. Pours clear amber with a creamy off white head. The aroma is quite spicy fruity with sweet malty and sugary notes. Very boozy flavor. Fruity and malty and somewhat spicy. Hot boozy finish. The booze ruins the overall impression.

Boozy. Big-time boozy. It pours a cloudy, dark gold amber color, the suds fade to some splotchy lace. The aroma is a little hot, but not in a bad way. There’s some apple and fig, and a big malt that implies whiskey. The flavor is smooth up front, the finish brings a little hoppy tingle and big vapor from the ABV (north of 10%). This is a big one.

The aroma is raisin, figs, kinda sweet. Pours a copper/brown with light brown head, mostly diminishing, good lacing. The taste is bitter. The body is medium, the texture creamy, the carbonation lively and the finish bitter. Pretty good some burning going down but not bad.

Butelka 0.33L
Wygląd: Jasnomiedziane, klarowne, przygaszone. Piana niska do średniej, w kolorze ecru, głównie drobnopęcherzykowa.
Aromat: Słodki chmielowy, sosnowy i dojrzałe owoce. Do tego słodowy, figi, melasa, palony cukier, tostowy, toffee, likier, alkohol, rodzynki. Bogaty, intensywnym bardzo dobry.
Odczucie: Ciało średnie, wysycenie średnie, faktura kremowa.
Smak: Intensywny chmielowy, żywiczny, alkoholowy, przypalany cukier. Goryczka wysoka, żywiczna i lekko alkoholowa.
Całość: Bardzo dobre BW. Świetnie zbalansowane w aromacie pomiędzy chmielowością a słodowością.

Pours a clear light brown beer with a small, beige head. Smells malty, alcoholic, some hop, some caramel. Tastes bitter. Feels very alcoholic in the mouth. Leaves a very bitter palate. This beer is an attack on your senses! Balance is lost in this beer. This is something for lovers of extreme beers. Not my thing sadly.
