COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Did you also at some point in your life get seduced by promising words like ’probably the best in the world’, ’it works every time’ etc.? This American Barley Wine Ale says it how it is. It’s intense, attention seekingly hoppy, and definitely your kind of beer. A beer with a big ego, drive and a huge thirst for recognition.

Bottle shared with (and courtasy of) The Bergen tasting crew, and Gunnar. Has a hazy dark brown colour with a medium beige head. Lots of hops in a fruity aroma with the addition of dried fruit, pine and rye. A lot of malt in the flavour and more powerful hops as well, almost herbal with grass and pine. The mouthfeel is soft and slick, and has a medium bitterness. A very nice ale! I also understand that there’s a huge difference between an English barley wine and an American one. This is closer to a DIPA.

22oz bottle in a bulb glass. Pours cloudy brown/copper with a lacy, beige head. Aroma strong of caramel, toffee, light vanilla, a little chocolate plus some floral hops. Flavor the same, with a really nice blend of it all. Smooth texture. A good barley wine.

Bottle [660ml] shared with HogTownHarry, JoeMcPhee, jercraigs & mabel -- c/o HogTownHarry. Pours a murky auburn-red with a small frothy tan head. Aroma is fruity along with lots of hops, caramel malt and some salt. Big malty flavour along with lots of hops, quite a bit of alcohol and a dry bitter finish. Medium bodied. It’s really good and well done but not exactly to my liking.

2013-04-12. Dark amber body, good sized foamy beige head. 4+ Nice Aroma, alcoholic melange of hops and malt, typical American barleywine profile. Flavour is similar, mix of hoppy bitterness and caramel malt. Salty undertones 7++ Medium bodied palate. 3++ Solid, pretty textbook take on the style? Reminiscent of Old Leviathan or Old ruffian, or at least how I remember them being. Just a bit too alcoholic to get to the next level of appreciation for me. Good but I would only reach for it occasionally. Bottle shared by HogTownHarry

Opaque dark brown beer, big pale cream coloured head. Palate is light, airy and semi dry. Nice toffee malt base, rich. The hops are a little skunky with pleasant pine. Finishes semi dry. Bitter hop linger. Like this - so few good barleywines about these days.

Bottle courtesy of hogtownharry - Deep amber pour with a thin head. Very rich malty aroma. Chewy malt and a little bit of rich earthy hoppiness. A salty sort of malt character with some intense character and a bit of earthy bitterness and a touch of citrus. Very rich and fruity with a bit of pine on the back of the palate.

Pours hazy deep amber into a tulip. Soapy white head recedes leaving spot lacing. Stale pit fruit aromas. Thick with dark berry and pit fruit upfront turning to bitter toffee before the lasting molasses finish.

Pours a rusty golden brown. The nose is fig, molasses, cream brulee crust and date. The pallet is bitter caramel, sweet grapefruit and malt.
