Did you also at some point in your life get seduced by promising words like ’probably the best in the world’, ’it works every time’ etc.? This American Barley Wine Ale says it how it is. It’s intense, attention seekingly hoppy, and definitely your kind of beer. A beer with a big ego, drive and a huge thirst for recognition.

Bottle shared with (and courtasy of) The Bergen tasting crew, and Gunnar. Has a hazy dark brown colour with a medium beige head. Lots of hops in a fruity aroma with the addition of dried fruit, pine and rye. A lot of malt in the flavour and more powerful hops as well, almost herbal with grass and pine. The mouthfeel is soft and slick, and has a medium bitterness. A very nice ale! I also understand that there’s a huge difference between an English barley wine and an American one. This is closer to a DIPA.

Bottle at home. Aroma is biscuit malt, caramel, candied fruits, tropical notes, resinous hops, dried fruits, grapefruit. Flavour is medium sweet with a potent long bittersweet finish. Slightly boozy. Body is full. Nicely fruity hoppy American-style Barley Wine, rich and tasty

Aroma is fruity and toffee-like but also some red berries and raisins. Taste is surprisingly alert and fresh for a barley. Red berries and hops together with slight alcohol. A really energetic Barley Wine.

Cloudy brown with a thin foam. Spicy hop aroma and a slight sweetness that I find quite pleasant. Body is moderately sweet, caramel, and spice. Finish lasts a while reminding me of those hops. Good beer.

Drank with Bram at my room during Stukafest Nijmegen 02/02/16. Nice barely wine, lots of taste. Not that complex but good.

Bottle at Monday Club Erzbierschof. Thick and heavy, some dirty farmhouse aroma, followed by an overpowered and not particularly balanced.

For once, this is a hopped up American-style Barleywine that still legitimately seems like an actual Barleywine instead of an IPA. With Freudian Slip, the toffee and butterscotch malt notes come through just as much as the bitter, tea-like hop notes. There are some dark fruit sensations, also. Freudian Slip is full-bodied without being overwhelmingly heavy. I could leave that last sentence the way it is, but this beer is called Freudian Slip, so I can’t help but think the closing line should be far more euphemistic. It’s a mouthful, but nothing you can’t handle.

Flaska på Bishops Örebro. Rosaröd vätska med lågt gräddvitt skum. Doft av kola, körsbär, mörk kakao, torkad frukt, brunt socker, mörka vindruvor, apelsinskal och kåda. Halvfyllig kropp. Smaken är nötig, med lönnsirap och kola. Välhumlad i amerikansk stil med ganska stor beska i avslutningen.

12 oz bottle shared with ebone1988 out of Dumpster Box No. 1. The pour is a nice darker ruby brown color with a thin creamy white head and a little lace as it just falls down. The aroma isn’t good. There is a sweet juicy hop that’s dominating on the front of the nose and it slowly works back to a fruitiness. It’s not at all what would be expected, that’s for sure. The flavor is all hop bitterness. There is a light roast, but for the most part, it’s all hot and bitter. The mouth feel is weird. There is a light syrup tendency, but it’s decently carbonated, and a touch light. The aftertaste is lingeringly bitter and just off. I’m not a fan of this one. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Heldere roodbruine kleur met een goede kraag. Ruikt zoetig, fruitig, vanille. Smaakt bitterzoet, fruitig, alcohol, vanille. Beetje scherp.
